Central car park

The entrance to the multi-storey car park from the top of Windsor Rd will be closed for four weeks from next Monday, the 31st.

For those of us who live due South of the Broadway, it's a major detour to get to the other entrance/exit, along roads that get very busy in the rush hours.I haven't seen any 'horrible driving' on Windsor Road. With cars parked on both sides, one can rarely get above 10mph.

Finally re-opened in time for Christmas although there's still a sign down the road saying it's closed, which will no doubt be there for the next ten years.

Two entrance lanes and two exit lanes are now down to one each. Who thought that would be an improvement? I'm increasingly convinced that the world has gone mad.

And yet the cost of parking in the car park remains low at £1 an hour, not having changed for years now. Also you can park a short walk away until 10am (though maybe I shouldn't tell the Council that). The car park does get very busy at peak times (which I avoid) and I don't see the benefit of having people queue for longer to get in and out!ANPR has speeded up exit, though.

On a visit today I did wonder why they haven’t whacked the hourly rate up, perhaps emission based as they do with CPZ permit charges. But then deterring the out of towners might finally kill off a fair few of the businesses.Mind you, the paucity of offer there doesn’t really make it a destination to cherish so maybe they don’t need to increase parking fees to finally make that car park into a 45 storey block of flats!

Believe me, they’ve thought about it many times but British Land won’t countenance the wilful destruction of their massive investment in the town centre, especially with more development from them in the pipeline. Weirdly, the ‘highly desirable’ retail outlets in the Filmworks development remain empty. One assumes there’s a plan to ensure these ‘much sought after’ units will be occupied on long term let’s by next Christmas.

It is for my darling wife who is a wonderful seamstress. Thankfully there is still one in West Ealing. There are four haberdashery shops in Uxbridge and three in Chiswick. None in Ealing Broadway so one less reason to go there.From my viewpoint it is the menswear shops that I miss. Sayers, Neads, Lynes and Morris Brothers to name but four, all gone and nothing of a similar quality has replaced them
