The shambles that is Ealing Broadway station

Nowhere to legally drop mobility impared passengers adjacent to the station and when  theyn do make it to the station they can't get on the train. Great job TfL and your 'esteemed' leader, Sadiq Khan.

Khan has said that its a National Rail station and therefore ''not my fault guv''. They missed a trick as there was an old bus stop on the crest of the slope that is now a loading bay that could have served as an ideal drop off spot given the move of the stop back to almost near the crossing. You could say that its a planning nightmare assuming that any planning actually went into the whole shambles.

There is a drop off spot there, right outside the entrance to the station at the crest of the hill, it's not a loading bay.

We have had this discussion before. The drop off point on the crest of the hill is not adjacent to the platforms or the station entrance end of story that's a fact Paul. No can a carer stop there legally and wheel a disabled traveler to the station to hand over to station staff. I sincerely hope that you never have to travel as a disabled person Paul, you will see what impact a lack of thought has on a simple task. Staff are not always available as has been reported numerous times. Plenty of instances of wheelchair accessible escalators or travelators around the world, it only takes her moment of thought Paul. Why not give thinking a try?

Why are there no seats in the ticket hall? You are maybe elderly and waiting to meet someone off a train, the train is late so you just have to stand. The dropping off and picking up by cars is a shambles. Most people stop their cars illegally in the 'Loading Zone' for the Shanakee pub. Clearly beer supplies are more important than the 100s of passengers getting on and off trains and tubes needing a car to pick up/drop off. And what about the steps between the station and the road? Could these have not been civil engineered away? No wonder Ealing Council's Transport Officer disappeared elswhere.

No-one has yet mentioned that horrible stink on the rail platform, clearly sewer problems but nothing done for years.  It's nauseating and absolutely honks.Still, close your eyes and you could be in Paris.  😂

Thank you Eric.  Paul is of the "I didn't see it/ it doesn't affect me" school of insular thinking. I do wish that there was a way for such people to experience life as a disabled traveller, if only for a day, they would soon change their mind.

Bear in mind the saying; ‘The measure of a civilized society is how it treats its most vulnerable members’. The way the less able are treated with utter disdain by London transport planners is shameful. Cyclists aren’t anywhere near a vulnerable section of society, yet the amount spent on little used infrastructure for them could solve all the accessibility issues on public transport at a stroke.One day Paul will be in a position where his bike won’t be any use to him. He might struggle to get around then. How sad.

The drop off spot is just outside the station entrance though, it's right there on the same side, directly outside the entrance.Adjacent to the platform? What does that means?

Imagine yourself in a wheelchair Paul, someone takes you to the station, you then need assistance to be wheeled in your wheelchair to the station entrance where you can be handed over to network rail or TFL staff. You cannot do that anywhere Ealing Broadway repeat you cannot do that anywhere at Ealing Broadway. Stop bloody making things up.  Just imagine yourself in the wheelchair put yourself in others' shoes and stop being so bloody selfish. I expected far better of someone who constantly bleats about trying to make things better.

Good God, come on,you've even forgotten how to bloody read now. If you stop your car there you have to get out to summon station staff for assistance you cannot do that legally as you have to leave the vehicle, assemble the wheelchair if the disabled traveller is using one and wheel them to the station entrance, at which point you are not withe the vehicle, you are neither picking up nor setting down and are liable to a PCN. AS I SAID SPEND SOME TIME IN A DISABLED TRAVELERS SHOES YOU WILL SEE THE CHALLENGES WE FACE.

The space is a 15 minute parking space, parking for 15 minutes, why would you get a ticket if you walk away from the car?The staff won't come out from the station I imagine, if you're assisting somebody you'd have to go in with them, but as long as you're back within 15 minutes why would you get a ticket?

Try doing it in fifteen minutes, it can take that long to get a disabled traveller out and into the station if not far linger. God forbid that two disabled travellers wish to travel at the same time, what then? One drop off point does not equate to equality of access.

There is ONE space. If you are content that that is adequate provision for disabled travelers then that speaks volumes about both your blinkered vision and your selfishness.

I have just driven past this 'provision' NOT dedicated to Disabled user and it had a van parked in it. If you are going to have disabled provision at least make is a disabled provision and enforce it. Anyone who believes this is adequate is a buffoon.

Oh dear Paul, you seem to be getting more dim by the day.Tfl dropped its mobility forums in 2018 so little wonder that station designs, and the approaches to them are so poor.Has it never occurred to you why cycling infrastructure is nearer the station than accessible areas for disabled people to be dropped off and collected? You Lycra types are supposed to be fit after all. But people will not cycle if the hubs are too far away!Ealing council is as complicit in this as TfL. Prevailing attitudes aren’t inclusive unless it involves cycling. Not a mark of a civilized society.

Paul wonders why there is such animosity towards cyclists. Compare the provision for cyclists (3% of journeys) to that of disabled travellers (source TfL surveys) who make six and half MILLION journeys each week (Mondey-Friday).Ask yourself why bike hangers and bike parking proliferate while disabled provision is often either scant or non-existent.

Ealing Council and TfL allegedly consult ‘stakeholders’ when panning projects are in the pipeline. They ignored the advice of the various disability transport advocates involved and came up with the current design, which is wholly inadequate. Paul’s observation skills are so poor he must be a menace when out on the roads!Perhaps Paul doesn’t understand the intricacies of accessibility. Or he just isn’t interested. I suspect the latter.

What was the thinking behind having such a huge paved area in front of the station? What is it needed for? Wouldn't a drop-off drive through like the one in front of Greenford station have been a better use of the space and much more useful?

It’s for all the people who have to mill about waiting for a train or a bus that might not turn up.The Ealing council apparatchiks who were behind the design of the station approach and external amenities weren’t really interested in it. Very little knowledge of the surrounding area and who actually might use the station.

No why( if that’s directed at me)???I got off at Ealing BDWY Sunday & consider myself quite fit & able bodied.People with pushchairs, wheelchairs, elderly would struggle a great deal, farcical

Try to pay attention and keep up. Eric Leach, a regular contributor on this forum, was seriously hurt when using the Elizabeth Line at Ealing Broadway. Plenty of others have been hurt.
