Gurnell Pool and the rest !

I was being driven along Ruislip Road East towards Argyle Road when I noticed that the field beyond the remains of the pool had been dug up prior to the erection of the circa 300  "apartments" ! I suppose that the swimming pool won't be built until later?

The Planning Committee that voted, on 15th January 2025, for the Gurnell Leisure Centre redevelopment (ref. - 241706OUTR3) were stupid and blinkered. Councillors Ray Wall (Chair), Dee Martin  (Vice-Chair), Kamaldeep Sahota, Sanjai Kohli, Tariq Mahmood, Anthony Kelly, Aysha Raza (R.I.P.), Monica Hamidi, Lauren Wall, Gareth Shaw, Miriam Rice and Andrew Steed VOTED TO BUILD HOUSING ON A FLOODPLAIN. That was and is stupid and blinkered. Only the then Councillor Anthony Young voted against building housing on a floodplain, on that Planning Committee. He had common sense. The other councillors did not have common sense.

"Construction work is expected to start later in 2025 with the new facility opening towards the end of 2027", it says as we site here near the middle of 2026. I believe what is happening now is enabling works, effectively clearing the site before the building proper starts. There is no contractor to build the flats yet and it's not clear if Wilmott Dixon have been approved to building the leisure centre. The flats have outline planning permission, which suggests there are some more hoops to jump through.

The contractor has placed a temporary surface on the existing parkland and moved the pile of hardcore material from the existing site presumably to assist with excavation work for the new pool / surrounding flats. The bulk of the flats will be build on the car park area which so far still remains.
