Review of Thai Nice Restaurant on ActonW3 website

EalingToday's sister website ActonW3 paid us a surprise visit last week and their review of Thai Nice appear's on the ActonW3 website -www.actonw3.comSubsequently, we were full booked Friday and Saturday night and had to do something we hate to do - turn away customers without reservations. Excellent news David. Do hope business continues well.Didn't know that ActonW3 had a restaurant reviewer. Do they come unannounced and unknown to propietors?

They do come unannounced etc...though, as the reviews are signed, you can tell it's Claire Gittins mostly...only helps if you know her though. I've done one and certainly didn't announce myself before, during or after.

Yes they do have a restaurant reviewer - Clare Gittins. I've seen a few reviews she's done for North China and Coyote restaurants. And no, we didn't know she was in. Not before or after, despite her (apparently) takings photos outside to illustrate her piece. Wish we had as we'd have given her a drink on the house - but then that could be construed as bribery..lol.

Having read the review on Acton W3 David I was suitably immpressed and amused by the bit about the two ladies kissing. The description of the various Thai dishes seem to line up with my experience of my visit to Thailand some years ago. When I saw the picture of your shop front I suddenly realised where it was opposite the Old Tram Depot. There is a hint of 'Mock Tudor' on the first floor, very 1930s', no 322 I think used to be a Model Shop many years ago, by the name of RT Brown, but it may have changed a few times since. Pity you are so far away from me now, as Barnet is a bit of a drag round the NCR, BUT GOOD LUCK ANYWAY!!

Thanks Colin. Yes, I was amused about the report of 2 ladies kissing (I assume she meant each other). I work 7 evenings a week and can't recall this incident (and I'm sure the waiters would have told me) but hey, ho as long as they had a good evening...Thanks for info re no.322..we've been here 5 years..and i know it was a greasy spoon before that..but have been unable to find any photos of the parade of shops to find out what it was 20-30-40 years ago. My partner and I have used this establishment twice and on both occasions the food was distinctly below average. The management also seem to actively encourage smoking by sitting at the back puffing away. A tatty little restaurant which certainly doesn't deserve the glowing review on the front page of the ActonW3 site.And David, the reason you can't email me is because I don't wish to be bothered by unsolicited messages. Anything you have to say to me can be said on these forums.And the reason we went twice was to double check that the first visit wasn't just an 'off night'. It wasn't, the place is always that bad.

David, unfortunate that someone has a less than complimentary opinion of your restaurant. Guess one can't please all the people all of the time. Reading that single criticism has determined me all the more to journey from Ealing to Acton Hill some evening, to try your interesting eatery.  ;-)

ha ha yes isn't it funny!  I'm more keen to try Thai Nice now because my curiosity has been aroused.Just goes to show - all publicity is good publicity.And there's nothing like a contraversy to get people talking.

One wonders why the good lady went twice, as was pointed out on one of the replies on Acton, if it was that bad one would right it off straight away, seems almost wanting to prove a point come what may. Personally if I had encountered a situation like as described I would have just walked away, I would have had better things to do with my time. Just one of those things David, good publicity always attracts some people who see things differently, just the way it is.

thanks everyone for the messages of support..i know i shouldn't get upset by one negative review (but it was so nasty i let it get to me)...when you work 7 days a week for 50 weeks a year, you start to think..why bother?? might as well sell up and Acton can have another £1 shop.But, as pointed out, it was just one person's view and we will sodier on. haha. sorry samantha.

Resuscitating an old thread, I have just paid my first visit to Thai Nice. I had read about it many times on here, and meant to try it, but had got stuck in my habits. However my local was shut on New Years day, so the family and I  went with some old family friends for a spicey hangover chasing feast. I loved it! Friendly, reasonable, and unanimously voted by all of us as our new favourite.

Hi Susan...thank you for the kind comments (but bit of a surprise to see this thread from 2006 reappear). I well remember your family on New Year's Day (haha..in a nice way). I think you said your local was Maxims but it was closed. Their loss, our gain.You may recall you said your wanted to take a doggy bag home..but you left it behind on the table! The waiters that cleared ran after you but unfortunately couldnt locate you. I would have dropped it round to your house but we had no phone number in the book for you. So...alas..it ended up in the bin at the end of the evening!Have a great weekend..keep warm..and hope to see you and the family again soon.David@ThaiNice

Good to see you back at Thai Nice tonight Sue. Sorry about the noise level but 2 large birthday party groups did make it louder than usual.As you discovered, our next cabaret night is 29 March but we havent released the date yet as still waiting for flyers and tickets to be sent by the printers. I'll let you know when tickets are on sale. It's a fun evening so hope you can come along...click on the videos below for a sneak preview..
