Whats that tent thingy on Haven Green, is it something to do with the "cheese grater" per chance?

Skating we leave to the children Gerry, we're so glad we took them for skating lessons in Richmond all those years ago. They are so confident on ice or roller blades.

Amateur skating rinks make fine spectator sport - any room for an audience do you suppose?  And could we perhaps hope that the dreaded CCTV cameras might be tempted to swivel round to watch the sport?

The Ealing Times are saying they opened this yesterday, does anyone know what the ticket prices are? I hope to go along tonight to try it out. :-)

Hi, There was an opening event last night for everyone involved in the opening but the rink wasn't actually open to the public. It opens today and there's a story on the front page giving you all the details.CheersCharlie

Where can you safely drop off people when they wish to visit the ice rink.

I would drive down Gordon Rd and drop them at the Haven Green end.  There are some garages where you can pull in for dropping off (and picking up)purposes.

Went there last night with my Girlfriend, and we both thoroughly enjoyed it.Ticket prices were reasonable at £9.00 each for an hour on the rink. - and many stewards on the ice to help people should any accidents occur.I only managed to fall flat once, so not bad for my first time!I Would recommend it to anyone.

Blimey!! I lived overlooking Haven Green for 20 years and the most exciting thing to happen was the planting of spring bulbs. Now I move away they erect an ice rink!! Hope it's a great success ( and the flowers and grass are not ruined )

It's to encourage families to come to Ealing Christmas shopping - in what shops they're all closing.  Has no-one else noticed that Ealing Broadway shopping centre/high street cannot now be compared to Chiswick, Richmond or Kingston.  It is very run down and there is a distinct lack of nice shops, cafes and restaurants.  It will take a lot more than an ice rink to change the atmosphere, I find it rather depressing and go elsewhere, and I live here.

I think it's a shame it's in a tent rather than outdoor - the big difference in the temporary winter rinks is that you feel the air on your face and can see your surroundings. My favourite is still Somerset House where you can whirl round in an 18th century courtyard to Tchaikovsky, lit by flares and imagine yourself in St Petersburg....or Kew where you skate in the shadow of the great hothouses... but the Natural History Museum has charm too, surrounded by Victoriana. Why do it in a tent? You might as well be in Queensway.
