While walking  down the street one day a US senator is tragically hit by a truck and  dies. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the  entrance."Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before yo u settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you.""No  problem, just let me in," says the man."Well, I'd like to, but I  have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in  hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend  eternity.""Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven,"  says the senator."I'm sorry, but we have our rules."And with  that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator a nd he goes down, down, down  to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green  golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it  are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with  him.Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet  him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had  while getting rich at the expense of the people. They play a  friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne. Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly  guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such  a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go.Everyone  gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the  elevator rises...The elevator goes up, up, up and the door  reopens on heaven where St Peter is waiting for him."! Now it's time  to visit heaven."So, 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group  of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing.  They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by  and St. Peter returns."Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and  another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."The senator reflects  for a minute, then he answers:  "Well, I would never have said it  before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell."So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down,  down, down to hell. Now the doors of  the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with  waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking  up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from  above. The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his  shoulder.I don't understand," stammers the senator. "Yesterday I was  here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?"The devil looks at him, smiles and says,  "Yesterday we were campaigning...... Today you voted."

Dead Duck A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgery clinic. She laid her pet on the table; the vet pulled out his stethoscope  and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head slowly and said, "Iam sorry, your duck has passed away. "The distressed owner wailed, "Are you sure?" "Yes, I am quite sure. The duck is dead," he replied. "How can you be so sure," she protested. "I mean, you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something."The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room and  returned a few moments later with a black Labrador Retriever.  As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head. The vet patted the dog and took it out, and returned a few moments later with a cat.The cat jumped up on the examination table and also sniffeddelicately at the bird. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room. The vet looked at the woman and said, "I am sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck." Then the vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill which he handed to the woman. The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill "£150.00!!!!",she  cried. "£150.00 just to tell me my duck is dead?!!!"The vet shrugged. "I'm sorry. If you'd taken my word for it, the bill would have been £20.00, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now £150.00."

"A Great Talmudic Answer"Calling all Talmudic Scholars:Michael Bader, a well respected San Francisco psychoanalystand a member of the Board of Trustees of Beit TikkunSynagogue (and frequently published author in the pagesof TIKKUN) has brought the following question to ourcommunity, and hopes that its best Talmudic scholarsmight think more about it:Is it okay to take V-agra on Shabbat? There are two differing schools of thought on whetheryou can take V-agra on Shabbat:Beit Shammai forbids the ingestion of V-iagra onShabbat, lest one violates the infraction of erectinga structure ('boneh').Beit Hillel says do not read it as 'boneh' but as 'boner',and permits the ingestion of Viagra before sundownso long as the Kabbalat Shabbat takes less than onehalf hour to complete, the kids are asleep, and yourwife doesn't have a headache. And what bracha does one say before taking theV-agra pill? There is a choice of four blessings:1. Borei p'ri ha-eitz - blessing over the fruit of the tree;2. Boruch Atah HaShem zokeif k'fuffim - straightensthose who are bent;3. Ya'aleh v'yavo - arise and come;4. Boruch Atah HaShem mechayei hameitim -raises the dead. Here is a little follow up to the above...Yes, the anti-impotence drug has been found to containa tiny amount of animal matter, rendering it - one wouldthink -treif.But, Rabbi Abraham Blumenkrantz, an American Kashrutexpert, says that, as a medication that adds pleasure tothe Sabbath (not to mention the rest of the week), it ispermissible. But it is banned during Pesach - alongwith all other agents causing things to rise.

A young jackaroo from outback Queensland goes off to university, but halfway through the semester hefoolishly has squandered all of his money. He calls home.  "Dad," he says, "you won't believe what modern education is developing.  They actuallyhave a program here in Brisbane that will teach our dog Ol' Blue how to talk." "That's amazing!" his Dad says. "How do I get Ol' Blue in that program?" "Just send him down here with $2,000," the young jackaroo says, "I'll get him in the course." So ... his father sends the dog and $2,000. About two-thirds through the semester, the money again runs out.  The boy calls home.  "So how's Ol' Bluedoing, son?" his father wants to know. "Awesome! Dad, he's talking up a storm.  But you just won't believe this.  They've had such good resultswith talking, they've begun to teach the animals how to read." "Read?!" exclaims his father.  "No kidding!  How do we get Ol' Blue in that program?" "Just send $4,500.  I'll get him in the class." The money promptly arrives.  But our hero has a problem.  At the end of the year, his father willfind out the dog can neither talk nor read.  So he shoots the dog.  When he arrives home at the end ofthe year, his father is all excited. "Where's Ol' Blue?  I just can't wait to talk with him, and see him read something!" "Dad," the boy says, "I have some grim news. Yesterday morning, just before we left to drivehome, Ol' Blue was in the living room, kicked back in the recliner, reading the Wall Street Journal.  Thenhe suddenly turned to me and asked, 'So, is your daddy still messing around with that little redhead barmaidat the pub?'" The father groans and whispers, "I hope you shot that bastard before he talks to your Mother!" "I sure did, Dad!" "That's my boy!" The kid went on to be a successful lawyer.
