Hello all. I heard that a new dancewear shop for ballet/tap/modern shoes/clothing was setting up in Ealing and wondered whether anybody has heard of this? I know of the Pitshanger Dance shop but wondered if there's another one? Thanks in advance.Lisa

Lost Car Key- Please help!

My husband managed to lose his car key on a night out with friends. He was out in Brentford on Friday the 30th Dec, first in the Coach and Horses and then O'Brians.He then caught the E8 back to Hanwell.The key is attached to a tag that says "Boxer Motor Works".Any help is appreciated!

Christmas Day shopping

Call me old fashioned but was it really necessary to have at least 5 huge greengrocery stalls open on Christmas Day as well as late into the night on Christmas eve (Greenford) ? Whatever happened to the Sunday trading laws ? Surely these shops should not have been allowed to open on Christmas day. People shop for long enough in the run-Up to Christmas so they can have at least one shopping-free day in the year...

Siam Orchid no more?

I have returned from holiday this weekend and tonight headed down to my favourite Thai restaurant in Ealing - The Royal Siam Orchid near Ealing Common.But it was closed. The shutters were down. They have been there for years and years and we love the food and friendly staff. They usually close in January or February for a few weeks when they go to Thailand on holiday. Im hoping that is the case now but there is no sign on the shutters and it seems a strange time to close as Christmas is a busy time. Im hoping they havent had to close down. Does anyone know?

Who are they afraid of ???

A survey has discovered that Supermarkets such as Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury and Morrisons are afraid to sell Religious Christmas Cards! How ridiculous - who are they afraid of upsetting???Out of a total of 6576 cards only 36 had anything with a Religious theme which is less then 0.5%  In Asda only 4 Religious cards could be found on sale out of a total of 2600 cards!!!As far as I am aware this is supposed to be a Christian Country and I have not heard of any other groups of people from a different faith being afraid to send and receive greetings to one another.How can it do any harm to have Religious cards on sale, or to send and receive such cards? Why are they trying to take Christ out of Christmas?No doubt I shall bear the brunt of criticism from certain quarters for posting this comment on the forum, if anyone doesn't agree then your are entitled to your opinion, just as I am entitled to mine.

Theatreland - must they shock with foul language?

Although this topic refers to theatres in the West End I wonder what theatregoers feel about the presence of foul language and innuendo in the theatre nowadays?Recently I went with friends to see 'Rock of Ages' in the Shaftesbury Theatre - the show was rude, lewd but the music was good. Although many in the audience did appear to enjoy the show my friends and I walked out during the interval! This sort of suggestion and innuendo was not what we expected to see and it is a shame because we did enjoy the music.  We were not surprised to find an elderly chap hanging around outside the theatre waiting for members of the audience to leave halfway through so he coule ask for a spare ticket to watch the end of the show! We are definately not prudes but do feel that it was unnecessary to expect the artists to behave in this manner.This evening my friend went to see Billy Elliott at the Victoria Palace Theatre with visitors from Singapore. She had seen this production a few years ago and enjoyed it, but now it seems to have acquired much more swear words and this is spoken in front of young children, both on stage and in the audience. In fact the show starts with a four letter word brin used by the 15 year actor. The guests from Singapore were quite shocked and my friend was embarrassed.She also said it was a similar experience when they went along to see Oliver. What is happening to this country when swear words are more widely accepted and probably expected in the theatre? Some of these productions are popular with children so it is worrying and rather sad that the level of accceptance has been reduced so much that the producers think that they must downgrade standards to appeal to an audience. What do others think? I love the theatre but find this foul language unacceptable and not necessary, especially in shows aimed at children.

Chiswick free.......Ealing £2 an hour.

No doubt its been mentioned before, but why are we paying for parking on a Sunday in Ealing town centre? Hardly going to encourage shoppers, especially given recent happenings.eg: I had to go to Clarks for kids shoes today,...do I pay a "surcharge" and go to Ealing? , or go to Chiswick and park free or Kew Retail Park and park free?

Power Cuts

Parts of Raymond Avenue (W13) had their second power cut within a week last night (19/12/2011). This time it was from around 22:00 until around 1:15am. The emergency phone line was working and told me that their engineer had been paged, but was dealing with other emergancies, and would not make his way to the sub station dealing with our street until he's fixed the others. This is not acceptable, one engineer for many power sub stations? Smacks of penny pinching cuts.I'd love to declare Southern Electric "unfit for purpose" as a power supplier. Leaving elderly people (and everyone else) in the dark for hours, because they don't have anyone who can deal with it directly as they used to do. The previous power cut also affected Hanwell & Brentford. Are these on-going power cuts a problem elswhere in Ealing and surrounding area?
