Going Bananas

Went for a walk this morning in Walpole Park. Saw the three banana trees which are near the sunken ornamental pond behind Pitzhanger Manor. They were a sorry sight. There's bad news and good news about these banana plants.The bad news is that some idiot has broken one of them in half and all three of them are looking rather wretched with all their broad leaves hanging like black sodden rags.The good news is that all three have little central shoots pushing themselves up their centres and they have small side ground shoots beginning to grow out of their bases through the wet earth.Let's hope those bananas thrive this Spring.

We, in contrast, were in Canterbury and had a sunny if muddy walk through apple orchards south of the town with a great view over  to the cathedral and beyond to St Edmund's School.
