So, was it all worth it?

............mine certainly wasn't. How did everyone else enjoy their Christmas?

We went to son in Canterbury early Christmas morning. Miserable weather but clear road. Decent C of E service. Fun with the grandchildren. Excellent traditional lunch.

Penny, sorry your's wasn't good. Our No.1 son was on duty Christmas day, so he had all the family to his place(Hanwell) for lunch on Boxing day. Excellent time - much enjoyed bt the grandchildren and the various grandparents. No turkey - he gave us rib of beef, boned and rolled(from Richardson's Northfield Ave). Lovely Christmas. ;-)

For the first time I tried one of those black cured hams ..... absolutely delicious - I will never cook turkey again !! Yes It was worth it!

Of course it was. We took the day off (actually closed the restaurant for one day!!!) and went to my sister's in Shirley, Surrey with the 2 westies. Shame it was a wet day (needed a big towel to dry the dogs off each garden visit) but the food was great and nice to spend time relaxing with the family. Roads coming home were empty at 10pm and only took 50mins to get back and celebrate with the Thai contingency who were doing their own thing (but having a good time too). Christmas is what you make it.

Glad you had a good day-off David!  Looking forward to an evening visit to your sexy restaurant one day soon! You say "Christmas is what you make it" but one needs luck, good fortune sometimes too to make it extra special.  Are your Christmas efforts being appreciated etc etc. Are your hosts in good form.Well, being alone this Christmas Day, I volunteered to help out at the LBH "Pensioners Alone on Christmas Day" event held in Chiswick and organised by Pauline Hart and friends. Dinner and entertainment for 60 folk  and they loved it and I did too. There are two current threads on the W4 Forum reporting on the Charity bash..with pictures. It was one of the most fulfilling experiences for everyone involved.

Yes I saw the thread yesterday Jim and it looks like a very worthy cause and well done to you and all the other volunteers.

You're bang on there Jim. I'm always slightly envious of other people whose families make an effort at christmas time. For me this year, it was just a hell of a lot of work and money and no-one enjoyed it at all. I was glad to get back to work and seeing my friends who at leats make me feel welcome. I may well volunteer for something next year and give up on my lot.

Sorry to hear that your hard work wasnt appreciated Penny. Maybe next year you should book a ticket just for yourself and fly off somewhere hot and get waited on hand and foot. Failing that, volunteer work sounds rewarding.
