Blaming White City

The blame for the mass exodus of shops in Ealing is constantly laid at White City's door. If this is the case why are neighbouring areas also not suffering.The reality that we all know is the exodus is due to the demise of Ealing and it is time that the council took responsibility for allowing Ealing to become the shabby town centre it is. Before we worry about running with new developments lets learn to walk with the basics of a safe, clean well run town centre. We should be aspiring to be different, as it is diversity that attracts shoppers, more individual shops that White City, Chiswick Oxford Street doesn't have because at the end of the day M&S is M&S whichever town centre you are in.

Perhaps there is another reason?  Low level buildings along the A4 through Brentford were not maintained by the owners and were left to deteriorate.  Next planning permission was sought to knock them down with the local community left to feel grateful.Often planning reports reflect the sorry state of buildings as if it is a valuable excuse for the development.  Trouble is, they are often replaced with sky scrapers.

Another reason, perhaps, is that the shops we have aren't the shops people want.Office workers require sandwich bars, locals require food shops. Anything else can, and is, bought cheaper elsewhere without the hassle of parking, or least a bus ride away.Realistically EBC will only serve those who work near or live near.Would you suggest that to invigorate/identify the area the opening of olive oil and mustard, chandlery, aromatherapy, gadget shops? All these shops have come and gone. There is a place for them but obviously not in Ealing Broadway.
