Identity Theft

Has anyone been subject to identity theft?  My identity is currently being used by another including opening bank accounts in my name - if anyone has been through this I would welcome some advice.  I am very careful with personal information and everything is shredded - I am not sure how long it takes to resolve these matters.

Interesting to see on Watchdog last week that local councils sell (yes, sell!!) the electoral list to anyone that asks. Make sure you tick the box on the form that says they cannot divulge your information (apparantly 60%  of the population dont).

I have also discovered a telephone directory website where with a few simple clicks you can obtain personal information on anyone including their mother's maiden name!
