Red tiles vs. Grey slate

We live in a road with Welsh slated Victorian terraced houses.One house is having its slates removed and replaced with red tiles. Is there an aesthetic value that I'm blind too? I think not. So it's fiscal, and I'm purely curious as to the financial considerations of perhaps selling your old slate and replacing with red tiles?

Aren't the red tiles heavier and so if the roof timbers aren't strengthened the roof is likely to sag?

I do like grey slate roof tiles. If the houses are all grey slate, it might look strange to have red clay ones. Maybe a bit too late if they're being renewed already. Good luck.

I strongly advise about stengthening the roof timbers if you do use clay tiles. Artificial non asbestos slates look and blend in a lot better but buy good quality as some of the early examples failed.Iain
