Tool sharpening

Does anyone know a place to get stuff sharpened? I've got some hair cutters and garden shears.

Hello David, yes I understand your problem. Anyone with an even slightly practical bent now finds Ealing a wasteland, I do nearly all my shopping mail order now and rarely venture to Ealing Broadway. I suggest you try Ealing Boards and Timber on the Uxbridge Road in West Ealing opposite Daniels old shop, up towards the Fire Station. Tel 8579 3325 I think. They are very helpful. You could also try the smaller Hire shops as they have to keep their stuff sharpened, or should do! Good luck. Mark M

good idea! i had thought of approaching a barber or two. but i doubt they do garden shears!

My barber doesn't even get his electric clippers sharpened now, they are so cheap he just buys new ones, Mark M

I'm also looking for someone to sharpen tools and tried Ealing Boards and Timber - no joy sadly. It's the same with getting new handles put on spades and forks - we eventually found a place in Old Woking which not only put on new handles but sold all manner of brilliant 2nd hand gardening tools.

There used to be a place in Power road in Chiswick - probably a block of flats or internet cafe now ??

Good question. With Spring round the corner, my electric 18ins Qualcast lawnmower needs a thorough MoT - does anyone know of a contractor who'll come to our home to do the necessary...it's too heavy for a septuagenarian like me to take to a garden centre. Thanks.

I suppose they might just be able to put you in touch with someone if you can't find anyone else.  Unfortunately some of them have become rather supermarkety now though.

GayWays (garden machinery) based in Harrow will mend your lawnmower, and I am sure they will pick it up and deliver it back.  Speak to Nigel Lack and say I suggested you get in touch with them

I was at Syon Park the other day and asked about shears etc.  No they don't do it but there was the suggestion of asking your local butcher - who regularly has to get knives sharpened - and is likely to know a man that can (or woman)!
