14 Council Press Releases for January So Far

For what might otherwise be considered a quiet month there seems to be a lot going on and quite a lot to do with envirocrime and fixed penalty notices.  http://www.ealing.gov.uk/press_releases/2008/january/

Thanks Philippa, makes most interesting reading. I don't think I've ever read a Council Press Release properly before and I've learnt a few new things from this January's list. For instance, I see we've got a new Safer Communities Director(one Ms.Susan Parsonage) and that the Council now go into private gardens to demand a clean up of dumped rubbish.  Also, I hadn't realised that if one is dropping off or picking up a school child at a school in a CPZ zone, one can park for 10 mins without being ticketed. So pleased to see that our beloved Council is really serious about envirocrime, safer and cleaner streets and errant landlords in that they are now enforcing penanties. Well done Ealing Council - we're with you on these aims!

Yes, I felt that there was a lot of positive action detailed in the press releases.I know from the Acton website that they have had a lot of problems with people not taking responsibility for their rubbish and the dumping of rubbish.  A shop that had had squatters was also seen to be crawling with rats through the window and was reported to the Council by a forum user.  Tonnes of waste has been removed from this building.  It seems to have been a pretty major operation for the Council and hopefully the owners will be billed.  No-one can understand why the occupants of the neighbouring properties did not notice or complain to the Council considering the state of it.The Council is also checking that businesses have commercial waste contracts in place.  This will all help make our streets cleaner.  We the general public should make sure that we do our bit to make sure that this happens. It is dangerous and illegal to park on the zig-zags particularly outside schools where there are so many small people about.  I guess allowing 10 min in a CPZ zone may help to stop this. Taking the time to walk and talk to your child on any of these trips or making the arrangment to take turns with another parent/au pair though is something really worthwhile making time for.
