What jolly japes!

Well what fun - Montague Road is closed today (cut through from the Boston Road[Red Lion Pub] to the Uxbridge Road) possibly to mend the huge potholes. Despite warning notices still traffic is charging along (yes despite it being 20mph) and all having to turn around apart from some bright sparks who decide it is OK to go the wrong way up a one way street.

Not as many as you might think Viv but most cars have only the driver in them.It is easy for me to sit here feeling smug and superior as literally hundreds of motorists come down and have to do a U-turn but with so many surely it is the warning signage that is all wrong and needs attention. At the moment it is totally gridlocked.

Three large signs saying the road is closed plus signs in Boston Road. We've got a month of this and road resurfacing next week, which will be dug up shortly for new gas pipes.

These short demonstrate at least two things:1) Drivers don't read signage, and even if they do, choose to ignore it.2) The competence of whichever agency is responsible to enforce the traffic rules.A fortune could be made, and rightly so, to monitor the violations at that junction.Sadly competence, commonsense, and logic seem to have evaporated. Perhaps they are dangerous attributes for anyone in public service.

It is funny but I do hope that nobody gets hurt in all this.  They do seem to be travelling quite fast and I did hold my breath particularly when watching a pedestrian cross behind a reversing car.

A lot of people probably don't know which roads they drive down by name.  Road Closed signs I guess are often left up long after the work has stopped and often doesn't mean that there really is NO access - but sometimes it obviously does!  It is always going to be confusing where one-way roads are involved.  I've never understood why so much of this work takes so long anyway.  Is it because it takes so many teams of people each following the other?I saw a wonderful Eastern European film about a road like this.  The film was just left running.....  It reminded me of Ranelagh Road some years ago.  There were the teams who built the road humps.  Then they obviously weren't the right size or something.  So they took them off the road and then built some new ones instead. The reactions of the public to what is going on and how they negotiate the problems are funny!

You are correct Philippa people rarely know the names of the roads they travel along however in this case this route would only be followed by people who know the area and should know that there are no alternatives. That aside the situation has greatly improved since other roadworks in the locality have been completed and regulars have noticed that it says closed for four weeks!

Not as bad as it was but still getting queues of traffic having to turn round. Heaven knows what it is going to be like tomorrow when the road works start in Cambridge Road.

We've rain drains that need digging up and repairing, we've Victorian/Edwardian gas mains which are shortly going to be dug up and replaced, what does Ealing Council Highways do?????

The wind or drunks have pushed all the 'road closed' signs over so all the cars are coming down the road. The barriers protecting the trench are it the trench, the pavement and road looks like it's starting to slip into the trench in places and the work appears behind schedule.
