Surely if his father was American (had been for two year) and mother was American and he was born there, he won't get a British passport. Other countries: Ireland and Israel spring to mind, are much more accepting of the children of ex-pats: an Irish passport only requires an Irish grandparent I think...I seem to remember that being very useful for news teams during the Falklnads.
