Nice places in ealing

Where in ealing would you recommened to vist?for a day out that is

Gunnersbury Park, entrance off Popes Lane,is an old favourite because it has a Regency House with a museum, a round pond, pitch and putt, plenty of grass for picnics and pleasant for a walk!Bus route E3 or free car park.

Possibly a northbound canalside/riverside walk from near Southdown Avenue which is close to Boston Manor Underground station to Greenford with a detour to the "Bunny Park" in Hanwell. Another detour would be along th Grand Union after the Brent turn-off along the south side of St Bernard's/Ealing Hospital to "Three Bridges" (worth a look: road over canal over railway) and back. Lots of locks and one can see the bricked-up entrance to St Bernard's coal dock, by the first building built up above the wall.

The Bunny Park in Hanwell, though I'm, sure you've done that one.Horsenden Hill.A walk along the canal.Slightly further out but still in the Borough of Ealing - there are some lovely walks in Northolt.  The Dog Rose Ramble and the Hillingdon Trail? I'm not entirely sure of the names. My husband did a bit of each the other day,  while our daughter was in her clarinet lesson, and said the views were stunning (maybe Francis could tell us more - it's down his neck of the woods).

Ruislip Lido - I know its not in the Borough of Ealing but its only a short drive down the A40 and through Ruislip High Street. You can take a stroll around the Lido (approx a mile I think) and stop off at the Waterside Restaurant for a bite to eat. I live closeby and never get bored with a stroll or a jog around the Lido. A walk around Ruislip Woods is also an option and you can park free!

A brisk walk through Pitshanger Park, with a detour down the little lane that goes between the park and Perivale Lane through Ealing Golf Course,  to the beautiful little ancient church with its tiny churchyard of ancient stoneshttp://www.perivale.co.uk/st-mary-the-virgin-church.htm then back into the park and continue all around the park, the back through Cleveland Park and stop for a pie and a pint at the Kent.

Buy IIRC Ealing Walkabout (not quite the title?)and follow what you fancy.Outside Ealing but the two Kew museums are good.

Mark, having a day's stroll through Lammas and Walpole Parks is still quite pleasant and handy. If you end up in Walpole Park, there are umpteen pleasant eateries for lunch...Oporto, the nice Portugese place in St Mary's Road(opp YMCA), Osteria del Portico on the Green(excellent Italian lunch there), The Grove Cafe(in The Grove for a tasty Polish snack) and The Walpole restaurant(by TVU) is a great place for a midday meal. And several joints for coffees too. have a nice day.  ;-)

We often try and break up our working weekends with a brisk walk around our local area.  Just taking a different route somewhere where the houses are a different style or to a different park.It is amazing how little of your local area you see if you just travel by car up and down the same main roads every day!  It is nice to have the surprise of finding something interesting that you didn't know was there.

In answer to Maggie's question...If you cross the canal over the bridge at the end of Trumpers Way you can continue in the same direction on a public footpath to Windmill Lane.  You then need to walk about 600m south on Windmill Lane past Wyevale and the Hare & Hounds pub before you can pick up one of the tracks into Osterley Park.Here's a map...http://www.multimap.com/maps/?hloc=GB|Osterley#t=l&map=51.49562,-0.3391|16|4&loc=GB:51.50669:-0.35567:17

Thank you - we have just joined the cycling fraternity (weekends only)and are eager to find non-road routes to our favourite places. Will be trying this one out soon.
