Depends what you mean by 'this country' - if you mean SE England (and you probably do), sure; but the price of its brutal and corrupt imposition on the rest of the country, particularly the already economically devastated North, was a reversion to neo-feudalism.The Yorkshire-centred Pilgrimage of Grace, a mass revolt against this process, might have resulted in a more civilised and acceptable means of religious reformation and a more politically and socially progressive future, if only its leaders hadn't been daft enough to hold their overwhelming forces at Doncaster and trust Henry Tudor and the London establishment to act decently and honourably. Their naivety resulted in a huge boost for the London/Southern ascendancy and the plundering of the North - among many other things, that's why the Lindisfarne Gospels are kept in London instead of where they belong in Durham. The more conservatively-motivated Rising of the North against that proto-Thatcher, Elizabeth Tudor, was equally brutally put down and further devastated Northern society and its economy. So Northerners at least have nothing to thank the Tudors for. Perhaps the Northern diaspora in W London should campaign for the street name Tudor Gardens to be expunged!
