Multiple Political Offices

The news is out that Cllr Dheer is caretaking the Ealing Labour Leadership but despite taking on this additional task is still seeking to become a GLA member on top of local duties. MP Virendra Sharma is still a local member for Norwood Green.  There must be many of all parties doing this trick of taking on new office but refusing to give up the previous.  Is this because they do not expect to succeed in the new post so keep the old one for comfort or are we all being shortchanged in quality representation?

Colin, I do see a difference with an aspirational move such as Cllr Dheer to the GLA or Cllr Gibb to Ealing North but surely they would resign their councillor positions if they were elected.In Virendra Sharma`s case he has been elected as MP for Ealing Southall but by retaining his councillor status for Norwood Green is failing in cross-party duties which affect the borough - not just his ward.
