Electrician

Hi,Would anyone be able to recommend a good electrian near Greenford as I have a few minor bit of electrical work for around the home?ThanksMarella

Ditto - near Hanwell - if the last kitchen light goes the way of the others we'll be in the dark.

I'd recommend Paul Shirley 07976 350 944. He's reliable, turns up on time, good work  not too expensive

My neighbours tell me that when one gets electrical, gas and other building contractors in to carry out work, one should obtain a signed certificate to verify that work has been done to ceratin standards of competancy and safety.  What are these certificates and who are there officail trade associations that back these up? Thanks.

Not strictly true.  The gas and elec certificates are needed if you are immediately selling or letting - BUT they  are only valid for one year. (Course you may want one for your own piece of mind. ) There seems to be quite a backlash against Corgi as it's apparently expensive for gas fitters to join - or so I was told by  several people I spoke to about our renovations

It's funny, we did use a "proper" electrician for some of the work we had done - v v expensive, patronising and generally a pain. Then, a few months later, we had to change  the oven - an "ordinary" electrician came to install that, looked up at me horrified, as the first bloke hadn't earthed it properly. So you never can tell.....

Now here's a coincidence Viv - we had our c/h boiler renewed five years ago, done by a Corgi registered local Ealing installer. When it was done, we had BritGas in to renew our annual service contract and when they inspected the boiler, the BG engineer drew his breath in(in the way that car service garage mechanics do when they examine under your car bonnet)...only to declare that the boiler was not "cross earthed"(whatever that means!). It was promptly earthed and BG now cover us with their 3*** service contract! What a coincidence!  ;-)

Quite!  Course if you go back to the errant workmen it's never their fault is it!  We too have British  Gas  looking after the boiler. It's like buying your undies from M+S - safe, dependable, reliable. ;))
