Hi GerryIf you use the canal towpath you can very nearly meet all of your objectives. You could start at Boston Manor tube and walk across the sports grounds down to the Grand Union Canal towpath. Head north and pass the end of Green Lane, Hanwell (swift half at The Fox?). Carry on alongside the Hanwell flight of locks and behind St Bernards Hospital up to "Three Bridges" - road over canal over railway - and along the towpath to Osterley top lock and on for some fair way through Southall (a couple of miles) to Bulls Bridge. This is the fork in the Grand Union Canal where the canal coming from the north splits into the Brentford arm and the branch that goes into London via Paddington Basin. Turn right here and follow the Paddington branch up to the Uxbridge Road and on past Yeading Marina to the Ruislip Road by Taylor Woodrow as was. On further and under the A40 Western Avenue and along behind the industrial estate to Oldfield Lane and the Black Horse pub. You next pass under the Greenford Road and start along the stretch that runs at the foot of Horsenden Hill. This section runs through to the Ealing Road with Alperton station nearby. If you walk on you come to the aqueduct that carries the Grand Union Canal over the North Circular Road, and marks the boundary of Ealing and Brent. What I've described is a fairly long walk, (much of the boundary of LB of Ealing) but check it on a map:http://www.multimap.com/maps/#t=l&map=51.5354,-0.28343|16|4&loc=GB:51.4958:-0.32466:17|boston%20manor|Boston%20Manor,%20Boston%20Manor%20Road,%20Hounslowand cut it to suit. There are many places where you could catch a bus/tube if distance/ weariness/ weather caught up with you. It is quite an interesting walk but much of it is rather less than picturesque. Horsenden Hill is the best bit.Enjoy!David
