"Have to say that the seats were jolly uncomfortable and the carriages cramped; would not like to travel in the rush hour."How did you find it compared with buses? I've found it quite comfortable compared with buses and tubes, though perhaps not as good as the latest Alstom trams in France (Paris and Bordeaux). The Croydon trams are wider than buses and about the same width as a deep-tube train. The parts that use the roads work well, but the situation is quite different from Acton High Street etc. Croydon, thanks to the A23 bypass and a progressive council in the 1960s, has quite a good road network, so the tram can get through the centre without interfering too much with other road traffic. It's a good system, and might work elsewhere in London, but not on the narrow bits of the Uxbridge Road!
