Birds in my garden

I just saw a Siskin in my garden, as bold as brass picking up seeds or insects just inches away from my feet.  I'm sure it was a siskin and not a Greenfinch because it had lots of yellow on its breast and black on its head. I have green woodpeckers, siberian jays, a parakeet, wood pigeons, rooks, great tits, blue tits, blackbirds, robins, magpies very regularly. Anybody else have other birds?

As we live just down the road(ish) from you, we are also visited by the lovely birds you've mentioned...plus spotted woodpeckers with their lovely black coats, speckled chests and a flash of bright scarlet and white near their tails. It's a real joy for us - one of the many delights of living in sunny Ealing.  ;-)

Families of long tailed tits are one of my favourites!Be careful about mentioning Siberian Jays or you'll get lots of twitchers descending on your garden as these have never been seen in the UK yet!

Our Siskins have gone now.  They don't seem to come every year - may depend on the weather I suppose.  Our regular birds include Goldfinches, the occasional Greenfinch, House Sparrows, Starlings, Chaffinches, Wrens and Dunnocks.  We did once have a Kestrel stop off for an hour or so and one morning a Pheasant dropped in and had a look around before going off elsewhere - goodness knows where either came from.

Sorry David, you are right.  I read the wrong caption in my bird book.  Ordinary Jays (like what come to my garden) are prettier than Siberian Jays then.  I also had a pair of long tailed tits visit but they don't come often and to cap a lovely day, three ducks flew over my head whilst in the garden.Who needs to go to exotic places to see plenty of colourful birds!

Have you seen a swallow/swift/martin yet?

Not me but I had to chase a wasp out of my kitchen this morning!
