Helen ran the marathon!

Helen did it! Through sun rain sleet and halestones everything was thrown at her and all the other brave runners today!Fantastic turn out by spectators - Helen says that there wasn't one part of the 26.2 mile route that wasn't covered.

As Colin says, Helen looks very fit - and she's a nice looking girl too, guess she gets that from her Mum Linda!Well done Helen!  ;-)

These are her official times. She got bad cramp twice in the second half but the main thing was that her leg held out and there was no swelling at all last night. As, in previous years she has ended up on crutches during training and has had pull out we admire her determination. I'm sure that Colin and Gerry will be right chuffed to enter the marathon I, on the other hand, will be too busy organising the cheering!

I would say that was an excellent time Peter, especially considering the adversity of previous attempts. Is this going to be a 'one off' now, or has that success encouraged a bigger effort next year? Long distance running is after all as much a contest against yourself as against others, a PB , (Personal Best)means much to many runners at whatever level they run at. My Son has run this three times, but not this year, and has improved every time, which has brought him a great sense of achievement.If Gerry, and myself start now, we might finish by the end of next year's race, God willing and a few wee drams along the way!!!

If you guys are serious about the run - I'll happily meet you at several points along the way with a wee dramMeanwhile a toast to Helen - that was a fantastic time under 4 and half hours

That was Helen's 3rd full marathon, Colin - she has done Edinburgh and New York. I think considering her leg problems (which has caused her to pull out of the previous 3 London Marathons) this will be her last (it certainly was last night!) but she will probably still do half marathons.

I was at the New York Marathon in November - cheering my friend's daughter.  I wished I'd known about Helen, would have cheered for her too although we cheered all the Brits....and the Greeks and the Poles and the Swedes!Helen's time of just over 4 and a half hours is absolutely brilliant
