Mayor opening Lidl store Greenford

Since when has Lidl been buddy pals of Ealing council? There are I thought, one or two issues still to be resolved with the Hanwell store, such as the public toilet. So what incentives did the planning department negotiate for the development of this site.

what public toilet? I always have to nip into the pub. Well, any excuse  ...

"What public toilet?" Quite! As I understand part of the agreement for Lidl's building on the old bus garage was also to provide a public toilet (the ones by the clock tower have now been filled in). What they built was a brick one loo building on the right as you drive in. (it is so small you have probably missed it) It is kept locked and you have to ask for a key - though when anyone has ever done so goodness only knows. The council ,were I believe, in a wrangle with them over this for years.

The brick loo was probably the legal minimum they could bamboozle council officers under the much vaunted section 106 "reparations for development damage to the local community" clause. Unfortunately the key probably comes under section 107!

And what is the being wrong of the mayor Greenford Lidl in opening? It's not big enough, like EBC, to warrant a greater personage.
