cabinet reshuffle - sackings?

I've heard from a friend who works at the Town Hall that the new look Cabinet will be minus Barbara? is this true? Who has she upset? Did she jump or was she pushed (or is she the new mayor?)? Who is replacing Cllr Green?

I can assure you that Barbara has certainly not been 'pushed'. Barbara decided to stand down as Chief Whip and this actually took place back at the Group AGM in April. Barbara's replacement is Cllr John Popham who was elected by the Conservative Group (Chief Whip is an elected position within the Group, not appointed by the Leader)

Are you preparing your memoirs, Barbara??????

Just to let people know that I indicated some months ago now that I would be stepping down from the Cabinet.  All being well I will assume the position of Mayor next Tuesday.

who is coming in to replace you?. what about the current  deputy mayor?

Raymond Bradbury ● 6715d

Congratulations Ian on elevation to First Citizen of the Borough. Who is to be your consort and who is to be your chaplain?

is this the same Councillor Green who takes the trouble to hold special surgeries in conjunction with Ealing Centre for Independent Living?- a worthy candidate for  Mayor who can continue the fine traditions of the post.Separate issue, is it not time the dedication  plaques in the grove of trees in Walpole Park were renewed so all can appreciate the line up of previous Mayors of Ealing

Congratulations also from us, another question, which charity have you chosen to support while in office?

I am grateful for the messages of good will - my diary is already looking busy!Subject to my election by the Council I have decided to follow the tradition of recent years and appoint four consorts - my mother and three friends who will accompany me to events.  I am also being greedy and having two Chaplains - a work colleagues (Revd Stuart Leamy) and a former work colleague (Revd David Brammer - Vicar of All Saints, Ealing Common).  The Civic Service will be held at All Saints on 22nd June.My charities will be West London YMCA and Acton Homless Concern - two charities that I have been involved with over a long period of time. The theme of my Mayoral Year will be empowering young people and I hope to visit as manay youth clubs and youth centres during the course of a busy twelve moth period.  I do hope to see regular posters from the forum around and about as I visit community events etc.

well done Ian and et tu Brute to good old Cllr Sumner

Ian,IIRC you were Ealing's youngest ever councillor in 1990. Are you the youngest mayor?

Graham Weeks ● 6712d

I'm not sure Graham - I think Martin Mallam was a similar age when elected Mayor.  What I do know is that at 42 I don't feel young anymore!!!!

Ian Green ● 6712d

I have just heard Ian on Radio 4 10 o'clock news http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7404090.stm

Just to cash in on Ian Green adulations - I shall be proposing him as Mayor of Ealing for the municipal year 2008-2009.  I am currently thinking about what I should say.

Tell Him you trust him - as you do - and warn him not to jump into book writing within days of end of term or party switching like a recent near neighbour

Just say nice things!
