Terracotta - new Italian deli on Northfield Ave

Just posting to recommend this very welcome addition to Northfield Ave's shops. Popped in on Tuesday - a good selection of cheese, meat & salami and some fab marinated anchovies as well as olives of varying types. There's a small eat-in area and the owner assured me that their coffee is the best I'll ever have!  It's across the road from Creperie Cila - please pop in if you can - its a real gem!Maggie (and no, I have no connection with, did not accept a bribe from, etc. etc...)

Sounds wonderful, will definitely give it a try. I do like the deli at Waitrose, but they don't really vary the  choices very often.  I have just discovered that they have very good marinated anchovies on the salad bar at Tesco near Gillette Corner. Does the new deli sell clams?  I do like my Spaghetti Vongole.

The charming young Italian woman running the place told me that everything comes from small producers in Tuscany, so is not available in the supermarkets.I hope she does well, but fear she has picked just the wrong time for such a business venture with everyone suddenly tightening their belts.

Incidentally, Northfields Avenue must have one of the biggest variations in shops in Ealing. Posh cappuccino bars sit next door to greasy-spoons cafes, expensive beauty salons next to pile-them-high grocers.The sign of an area which can't quite decide whether it's up-and-coming, or not?

The sign of an area with predominantly independant traders - long may it stay that way, I love it!!  I do like having the choice of a hot chocolate and a pastry, or a big fat fry up!Popped into the new deli on Friday to buy some fresh pasta, a delivery of which was expected that afternnon - handmade by one of the chap's friends... Hope it does well.

Does Terracotta sell good salt beef?There's nothing like a good old fashioned hot salt beef sandwich in rye, with slices of sweet cured cucumber and lashings of Dijon mustard. There's none to be had in sunny Ealing! I've searched and searched - I could murder some hot salt beef sarnies occasionally!  :-(

Hhmmm, not sure about that one Gerry.  There was a counter with lots of cooked meats on display, couldn't tell you what they were though!!!!

Gerry,There is only one place for such a sandwichwww.schwartzsdeli.comMontreal may be a bit out of the way, but once you eat here everything else is just second best!

Thanks Andrew.  I've never been to Montreal, but this deli sounds the sorta place in which I'd like to snack.A couple of decades ago, I used to frequent a little deli in the middle of Wardour Street - it was called Joe's Deli - and there they served the bestest salt beef imaginable(there was always a Q there), served hot and with every combination of condiments one fancied. Sadly it's now closed.  Wish there's such a place in Ealing. :-(
