24 hour licensing - acton petrol station

A petrol station in Acton is one of the latest to serve alcohol despite local police protest.  There are stringent conditions to the sales however and they should be watched and infractions reported. Amongst the rules are only low level alcohol, ie no spirits, two people in station from 7pm to 12pm, hatch only operation after midnight.Who really needs alcohol at all hours?

I'm not sure what the moral difference is between selling alcohol at a petrol station and selling it at an out-of-town supermarket that everybody drives to.The petrol station at the end of my road has sold booze for years.

The practical difference of making alcohol available all-night could be felt by local residents experiencing rowdiness, lack of personal control and crime such as breaking into cars. The objection by police is probably well-founded and part of preventative policing which I feel is a good policy.

"The objection by police is probably well-founded and part of preventative policing which I feel is a good policy."IMO it is yet another instance of the nanny/police state. Why should fear of yobbery prevent the law abiding buying what they want whenever they wish?

The laxity of the Governments licensing hours has directly contributed to CDZ`s, controlled drinking zones which now cover fifty per cent of Ealing Borough. Nearly 100 seizures per month are made in Acton alone without further encouragement and whether by design or fault it is this control which is becoming part of the nanny/control state; not low-key preventative and common-sense policing!

In my naivety, I thought it was still illegal to sell alcohol off-license except between certain hours.

Many people still think the same but the Licensing Act 2003 removed the time frame and individual applications can ask for what they want

What is the difference between a petrol station selling alcohol and a Tesco Express selling petrol?Writes 'Puzzled of Hanwell'

Which of the two is more annoying as both of them slow your purchase of petrol down - and with the rising prices every second of engine idle costs even more money
