Thank you Verity. Are you an official spokesman for the Council?  I don't recall ever seeing such a clear and useful statement about refuse collection after Bank holidays before - thanks again.

Practically all my neighbours just leave their bins out on the usual day, despite the good example I always set them! Good news for the neighbourhood fox.

Susan Kelly ● 6709d

The same thing happens in our street after Bank holidays - the foxes and cats have a field day and lots of unspeakable items are strewn around our front gardens and pavements.  Worse still are the families who spend their bank hols at their second homes in the country and leave their refuse bags out BEFORE they depart!  :-(

Yes, the information could be more specific.  Below is what the website says and there is more information about how to protect your rubbish from being torn open on the website."Collection of black sacks of refuseBlack sacks should be left at the front of your property by 7am on your collection day.  Your refuse will be collected on the same day as your recycling. Find out your joint collection day by using the ECT online database.Any person unable to place their refuse out before 7am on the collection day may leave it out (as late as possible) the night before. An £80 fine is imposed for refuse left out more than a day in advance of a scheduled collection. The fine is reduced to £50 if paid within 10 days. The collection schedule varies around Christmas, Easter and bank holidays - Spring Bank Holiday refuse and recycling collections. Please note that garden waste is not allowed in the normal refuse collection ( see garden waste scheme) and does not provide black refuse sacks for domestic refuse. The council does not collect certain items. Check the non-collectable item list to see what items cannot be included in your household rubbish and for advice on proper disposal.  Missed refuse collections If for any reason your refuse is not collected and you report it to the council before 5pm, it will be collected that day. To report a missed collection telephone (020) 8825 6000."

First a big congratulations to the council for improved rubbish collection, and MUCH improved street cleaning. I have also e mailed for garden waste bags which arrived within two days, and lately the new big pink sacks, also arrived within two days, bur WHY will they never take my plastic, and now not my 3 big bags of bank holiday garden rubbish? I have phoned the council, let's see if it is gone by tomorrow as promised.

Yes, credit where credit's due, the Council have noticeably improved their refuse collection services and road cleaning programmes.  Well done Ealing Council, you're doing a good job on these fronts.

Gerry Tan ● 6700d

It is much much better but I think more effort should be made to advertise any changes and to point out where information on how and where is accessible, that the householder has a duty of care under the law, and that the Council has the power to fine those who don't take responsibility for their waste.

In this morning`s "Around Ealing" there is advice by Jason Stacey of a change in relation to plastics recycling. "Over the next few weeks households will be issued with a white  reusable sack - the same as the pink sack for garden waste"

Robert Darke ● 6699d

My plastic wasn't taken either.  If the proposed new sacks don't help, I'm not going to bother separating it. I've got better things to do than ring up the Council every week.

M. Anderson ● 6699d

Excellent idea to have reuseable bags for plastics as the pink garden waste bags are great.

Gerry Tan ● 6699d

I see lots of green boxes with the plastics mixed in with everything else - which isn't as per instructions and can't work with different collection lorries. There isn't enough door-to-door follow-up.  If you happen to walk along the street on collection day you can see where it goes wrong.  A bit more targeted information would I am sure make a great difference.

Philippa Bond ● 6698d

My plastic is bagged up separately in the green box - like all the other recyclable stuff, so that's not the problem in my case.

M. Anderson ● 6698d

The new white bags should make a real difference. The pink ones are great - now the smell has worn off - and makes it really easy. We're down to a bag and a half of black bag a week (household of three)but loads of recycling in its dirrent heaps and receptacles

Sara Nathan ● 6698d

Maggie, at present plastic is supposed to be either bagged up in a carrier or see-through plastic bag separately but beside not in the mixed green box or in its vey own own green box.  This is because it is collected by a different lorry to the rest of the mixed green box.  They may well have missed it as they walked past.  They don't have time to check through different carrier bags. If the plastics lorry comes first and misses it then it will be left by the next crew collecting the mixed green box collection. As Sara says having a special reusable bag for it will mean it is more noticeable.  But... that will mean something else to look after.  I really like the way the plastic is just taken away with NO bag to rescue at the end of the day if still there and a neighbour hadn't already done so for me.The boxes shouldn't be on the street or thrown back over walls.  There are complaints about this from both Hanwell and Acton in particular.  Ours tends to be OK with the occasional glitch.

Never have this trouble in Barnet. Collections always on the same day, and if that happens to be Christmas Day you have to wait 2 weeks, or that area affected gets an additional collection on the nearest Sunday. Our Council is realistic about Human Nature to have realised that leaflets/Newspaper Ads etc just flow over people's heads.

I see Barnet has compulsory recycling for various items.I love the subsidised wormeries and I like the way that they have the RRP listed as well as the subsidised price. The shape of the larger wormery is good for smaller spaces.Your collection seems to be quite different in that your food waste collected does not include meat and bones and goes in a large wheelie bin with the garden compost.I loved the children's posters and wish that this Council would do that:  Next week is Recycling Week.  I also see that there will be something opened by the Mayor at Brent Cross marking Recycling Week next week.http://www.barnet.gov.uk/index/environment-planning/rubbish-waste-and-recycling/recycling-in-schools/recycling-poster-competition.htmI also particularly like this page:http://www.barnet.gov.uk/index/environment-planning/rubbish-waste-and-recycling/waste-minimisation.htm

Philippa Bond ● 6696d

Just bones I think Philippa, meats ok according to my leaflet anyway.

Colin Vaughan ● 6696d

Yes, my mistake  - just bones.  Shame it's not everything.  I still hate wheelie bins though.  They are bigger than me and a battle to clean.

Philippa Bond ● 6696d

True, but they do keep the streets tidy, in as much as there are not large numbers of sacks to be torn open by Foxes etc, or even low life of the Human kind looking for ID.
