Cheers for CPZ

The Council have started work on road marking white parking bays and erecting posts for our new CPZ - hurray!  And the road engineers are painting double yellow lines at street corners too - about time too 'cos selfish outsiders park on most corners which is so dangerous for other car users and for unfortunate wheelchair users as well. At long last we're getting our CPZ, which we've asked for for the last ten or so years. Cheers!  ;-)

I fear that your gain may be someone else's loss Gerry, they will just find somewhere else to park, it may not always be selfishness, sometimes its necessity. very often local amenities suffer in the long run, but in your situation I don't know the full story it may be different there, and certainly parking in dangerous situations is not acceptable. Usual trouble though when there are too many souls crammed together trying to put quarts into pint pots!

What's the going rate for a resident's annual parking permit in Ealing CPZs?  And what d'you pay for a temporary visitor's permit in your CPZ? Thanks.

Much debate on the Acton forum on this one Gerry. In K1 we pay £25 a year since we have just gone from all day CPZ to one hour in the morning and one in the afternoon. But those who voted to stay in a 0930 - 1730 zone pay £45 and are deeply peeved by this....because they are one zone and Ks and K1s can park in each other's places - but it's all very close so I don't suppose they do in fact.Much umbrage taken though.

We've just received our new CPZ instructions and regulations for our area.  We're called Zone JJ(Ealing dean) and the parking restrictions are 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon and residents' permits are only £25/annum!  Hurrah hurrah!!  For the last 10 years, it's been increasingly intolerable in our local roads - now we'll be free from most all-day parking commuters, shoppers and students and the many workers from Ealing Studios.  Hurrah!  We're happy!  ;-)

We like to park near you Gerry and walk to the shops through Walpole Park. Takeaway the pleasure of the walk and we may just as well go to the more vibrant Uxbridge or soon to open White City. Luckily your CPZ isn't aimed at shoppers at the moment but as Colin says there will be a downside.

The only downside for CPZ with just one hour morningand evening is that commuters move to the nearest possible non-cpz streets which is a pain for them. For those inside, there seems to be little downside: it's cheap; it doesn't impede shopping and visiting much and it's effective.I don't like CPZs in priniciple but, if you have to have one, two hours a day is the way to go. Of course, in ours it's still infinitely more difficult to find a nearby parking space in the evening than it ever is - or was - during the day.

A good assessment and pleasing that the council have introduced a less draconian option chosen for JJ & K1. A possible long-term worry  for the less capable in the 0930-1730hrs zone is the reduction of visits from family, friends and services for those who are most likely to need support.

Of course if I swap my shoppers hat for my van driver hat, I think they are the best thing since sliced bread, I can actually park outside peoples houses to do collections and deliveries.

I think the controlled parking for two one hour slots a day is a major cop out. I live at the church end of Churchfield Road and two of the major contributors to clogging the roads and awfully parked cars are the Masonic Lodge and the Tamil temple. Neither will be affected by the parking restrictions and the members of both organisations don't live in Ealing so they are likely to drive and park here.Also, shoppers will soon cotton on to the fact that they will now be able to park more easily in my street and stroll down to the Broadway rather than being encouraged to take public transport or use a car park. A full all day no-parking zone should have been set up from the start. Do the Masons have friends in high places? Are the council afraid of offending the Tamil worshippers?I know I sound like a NIMBY. I probably am, but I don't see the point in half measures.

The main improvement is to stop permanent or all-day parking from which you should benefit whilst allowing mainly local people to run errands to the shops, pharmacy, post office etc. and which will help to keep the area from further decline.The knock-on effect of totally closed zones would for instance be curtains for the improvising Northfields Avenue shops, not to mention St.Johns Parade, when shopkeepers and staff, suppliers and customers are faced with only limited stop and shop.The Hindu temple was formerly a Baptist Church (1864) and the old St.Johns Vicarage (c.1880) became a nurses college attached to King Edwards before finally becoming the Masonic Centre in 1983 and both are therefore established centres.

The ones in St Mary's Road are so convenient and it's pleasing to note that every so often the Council add a few more at various locations. Also, we need more bicycle stands(covered if pos) and bus glass covered bus stop shelters.

The two-hour CPZ seems to me to offer the best of both worlds: preventing people from parking all day to use the tube while permitting us to visit friends for lunch. Very civilised.

It prevents not just all day commuter parking but also parking by those who come from out of the area to go on holiday for weeks at a time!  If the area is too big though you can suffer from inconsiderate parking from your fellow CPZers.

The restriction for Ealing Dean CPZ (St.Johns, Mattock Lane area) is between 10am-11am and 3pm-4pm Monday to Friday and requires a permit or voucher between these times.  Although the Temple and Masonic are established continual swamping beyond one or two days per week would be pushing tolerance and worth a direct complaint - but hope it`s not the case!

The Mattock Lane health centre has imposed parking restrictions but they are not clear and I wonder if there really is clamping there.

Unsure about clamping at the health centre but the CPZ comes into operation on the 17th June, although road markings and signs are already in place.

Sad to say, the road signs and markings for our new Ealing Dean CPZ are not complete yet.  There's quite a lot to do still. We've applied for our permits but as yet ain't had them. Hope the permits come before the 17th.  :-(

"I fear that your gain may be someone else's loss Gerry, they will just find somewhere else to park..."As predicted, the problems of parking have been shifted to neighbouring streets, now that our new Ealing Dean CPZ is nearing official operation. Our gain has been at the expense of those nearby strets who didn't vote for a CPZ in their immediate area. It's a marked and massive shift of errant cars which now affront local unCPZed roads and the owner occupiers of these once quiet(relatively) roads are absolutely furious. Predictable really. But then, we've had to suffer this inconvenience for years. My guess is that those now blighted by parked cars will vote for a CPZ the next time round.  You're right Colin, the problem shifts from area to area, but we're happy (Hurrah!) now that we've regained our street - it's bliss.  ;-)

Sad to say, not anymore Peter. Elers Road is now full to capacity with the overflow of cars from our enclave of newly CPZed roads and you'll find it very difficult, if not impossible, to find a free parking space there now - I've just returned on my bike from the shops in Northfield Ave and I've seen Elers Road parking situation there for myself.All is not lost however, as there's always free parking in those nice Masonic people's HQ near St John's church, where there seems usually to be spare spaces and of course there's always the Mattock Lane Health Centre, not to mention the Conservative Club's parking lot in St Mary's Road. Also you could tuck in at the Questors Theatre car park or in the couple of ample free car parking in front and behind the NHS clinics in Mattock Lane. But Elers Road is now full to capacity.  :-(

It's OK Gerry, we only shop in Ealing at the weekend anyway, so we're fine.As you say, we could also park at the 'extremely nice Masonic people's' HQ (but only with permission of course).

I am loving the new CPZ. As I look out of my window on Churchfield Road I see empty spaces all along. Commuter traffic in the morning and evening has virtually disappeared. Shoppers can easily park and visit the Parade for their needs.I'm still having a problem with idiot Tamil temple goers in the evening who can't be bothered to park 20 yards up the road and park in front of my driveway, preventing me pulling out safely. But on the whole, it's a massive improvement.

I agree with you 100% Darren.  Often, selfish people would park their cars half way across our drive for hours on end and make it almost impossible for us to back out on to the road and return safely. They park their blasted cars on corners which was so dangerous and inconsiderate to disabled wheelchair owners.  Hurrah for our new Ealing Dean CPZ and for the kind councillors who supported its installation - at last after nearly 10 years of increasing angst!  ;-)

I was against the CPZ in the past but the roads around here have become so congested it had to happen. I'm so glad there are double yellows at the end of pavements to stop inconsiderate drivers blocking drop kerbs and making it unsafe to pull out.I'm not giving the councillors any credit, though. They're more interested in the internecine twists of party politics than looking out for their ward constituents.

They're more interested in the internecine twists of party politics than looking out for their ward constituents."I'm not so sure about that Darren.  I've found our three excellent ward councillors Ms Ann chapman, Mr Ashok Kapoor and Mr John Cowing doing a splendid job in Walpole Ward. They try their best for all residents, irrespective of their political parties. Sorry you may have found them wanting, but I respect your opinion although I may differ and find them satisfactory.

Just to let everyone know, I'm still loving the Churchfield/Culmington Road CPZ. The roads are much quieter. Really happy with it. Anyone experience any problems or positives?

Darren, agree 100%, our new Ealing Dean CPZ Zone JJ is a great success. But I'm so sorry for our nearby streets like Lyncroft Gdns, Carew Road, Elers Road, Kinsdown Ave, Loveday Road, Dudley Gdns, Camborne Road etc etc, which are packed to capacity with parked cars from outside our locality - their roads are now a nightmare! So often I see cars having to back up because there ain't enough room for two cars to pass in those roads. But our new Zone JJ is a delight.

Doesn't the "C" of CPZ stand for Creeping perhaps.Northwest of EB is getting quite bad.The council could make a fortune from booking drivers who dump their vehicles  at/on road junctions just outside the CPZ.And why, one may wonder, is unrestricted parking allowed at the top eastern side of Castlebar Road? Perhaps Ealing Council should go it alone and ban all parking on bus routes except permitted bays.Ferrymead Gardens, eastern end, is another place where parking should be prohibited. It's a tribute to E10 bus drivers that they don't hit vehicles on that section.
