Wine choice

HiI am planning a dinner party and want to impress with my knowledge of fine wines. Can anyone recommend a local supplier for Blue Nun? I am looking for around 38 bottles of the stuff, but would consider buying more if I were offered a good discount.Are there any other fine wines posters could recommend?Many thanks, in advance of your help.Warm regardsAngus

Blue Nun Angus? You must be a regular viewer of 'This Week', presenter Andrew Neil is always on about the stuff exorting us not to overdo it. Personally I am usually partaking of a wee dram or two whilst listening to what 'The Great Leader' has been up to at No10.

We have a bottle of mateus rose left over from our wedding, still unopened after almost 35 years, now what does that tell you. I also have a bottle of unopened beer from King Edwards coronation, but its leaked, ho hum.

Credit where credit's due - Blue Nun and its ilk helped to introduce a whole generation to wine drinking.Not having tried them for years whats wrong with them? They are still in the shops so someone is still buying them. Is it wine snobbery?Bring back the prawn cocktail, steak & chips followed by Black Forest Gateau and an Irish coffee - now there's 70s cuisine for you!

What about "Black Tower"?Wasn't Blue Nun the wine that was was tested on the yokels, sorry provincials, for its relaunch by offering samples which appeared to come from three different bottles of wine.Each bottle had a different label, posh, middling, and cheapo. The contents were identical. Guess which sample had the highest acclaim.

Best mixed with creme de menthe, Angus. The combination of green and yellow looks exactly the same coming out as it did going in.

Here in Latvia, Latvia Balsams is the local liqueur. It is black and tastes medicinal. OTH, in Estonia, Tallin is superb, akin to Drambuie.

I'm rather partial to a 'Saucy Devil'. Two shots of Daddies Sauce, a generous measure of absinthe, then a splash of Tizer topped up with Bull's Blood. Delicious!

Freixinet used to be the tipple of choice in the 80s at 0900 on a Wednesday and Friday morning when the night shift poured out of Television Centre post Breakfast Time and into Albertine's on Wood Lane. Lethal...and responsible for both marriage and divorce in its time!

The last time I had a Singapore Sling was none other than in the Long Bar of Raffles.  It was pleasant enough, but I didn't really enjoy it, 'cos it was my round and it was Slings all round - I was worrying about the bar bill! The bill for five of us eventually came and it was S$200(SGD) = circa£75(BGP) and that included a bowl of peanuts each. I think I'll stick to a pint of London Pride.  :-(
