Increased Departure Flights Over Ealing

Anyone else notice that for roughly the last six weeks, instead of the odd day every month when planes depart over Ealing, they are have been taking off over us every day? Does anyone know why it has been happening for so long without a break?

Wind direction. Most departures are westward because the prevailing wind towards Heathrow is from the west.If an easterly wind is greater than about 10kph then departures will be eastwards and come over Ealing. We've had a lot of easterly wind recently. As an aside I read that the flight paths are to be moved southwards by a few hundred metres.

There's quite a long thread on this topic on the Acton W3 site.  Same conclusion re wind direction.  Where have you read that the path is to move a little southwards?

Sarita - there's a consultation at the moment about moving the flight paths.  It's as a result of the National Air Traffic Control centre wanting to 'tighten up' the flight path which will result in more flights over Ealing - and possibly Acton.  We have details of this and how to register your views on our West Ealing Neighbours website at http://www.westealingneighbours.org.uk/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=371The consultation runs until 19th June.
