Sparrows

A sparrow has been chirrupping all day every day for about 3 months  from a hole inthe house side wall, occasionally switching to a nearby tree. It never seems to stop. Its going on as I write . So far as I can tell ,its the same one all the time .  Am I saying the obvious - its looking for a mate , but no chance ? should I break the news to him/her ? or is there another reason , eg has its young been snaffled by a magpie or something ? I read with sorrow  there is a sparrow decline .

Sadly, we only ever see the occasional sparrow in our garden now.  Zillions of tits of all varieties and the skies of Ealing a dotted with trillions of fast flying swallows. Wher have all the swallows gone?  :-(

I've seen the odd sparrow over the last year or two after seeing none at all for the past decade, so maybe they're creeping back.
