Kids Shouted at in Nursery Shock

There was a front page expose in the Standard yesterday about hundreds of nurseries which have been judged inadequate by OFSTED. Obviously anyone would want to know if a local nursery was given this rating so I checked the full list.Grange After School Club was listed with the following comment: "Staff have a basic understanding of managing behaviour but there are many occasions when staff raise their voices as a means of managing behaviour."Many of the other reasons nurseries were judged inadequate were technical such as the case of the Montpelier nursery where the fire procedures were held to be poor or in other cases they were administrative i.e. lack of documentation. Most of these could have been sorted easily and there was no need for the inspectors to denigrate the professional reputation of dedicated people by publicising these lapses.Doesn't this confirm the suspicion that people become inspectors because they weren't talented enough to become teachers?

I don't know about your last line, Paul, but it is very disappointing that OFSTEd inspectors have taken such a hard line and perhaps frightened many parents unnecessarily.  Andonce again, perhaps the newspapers shouldn't make a mountain out of a molehill.

"          Probably very true, fancy being criticised for  "  raised voices ". Reminds me of the case in the small Wiltshire village of Whiteparish where a cousin of mine lives and where the local mature " child minder " was threatened to be struck off because she didn't have any black dolls. The fact there are no black children ( or parents ) in the village was apparently no defence in the eyes of the politically (in)correct jobsworth.
