Ealing Centre and High Street

If Primark and the cheap nasty shops in the High Street weren't enough, market stalls are appearing more and more often in the square outside Primark.   These, together with the seemingly permanent cheap goods stalls all over the High Street, have drastically changed the atmosphere in Ealing.   I believe the only way forward is to close the Ealing Centre down and redevelop this into luxury flats with parking facilities and concentrate on rebuilding a decent High Street in Ealing Broadway, like Hampstead (very upmarket I know but something to aim for) thus using what Ealing still offers such as a beautiful park and great transport/road facilities to get into and out of town easily.

If Ealing needed upmarket shops we'd have them already.The demographics have to change first.Luxury flat owners would certainly appeal to the retailers but could enough owner-occupiers afford them?

I'm not bothered whether its families, couples, singles etc, I just think there are too many people already and the infrastructure just cannot cope with anymore

Yeh, the last thing we need or want are yet more apartments.I don't mind the stalls in the shopping centre. They add a buzz and colour to what is a rather dreary piazza.  What I don't like are the stalls on the pavements on the Uxbridge Road near Marks&Spencers - the fruit/veg stall on the corner outside the shoe shop in particular. And how do the owners of that stall manage to park their lorry at the top of High Street all day and get away with it - it's a hazard to traffic, cyclists and pedestrians.

What did you all think of the huge "continental" market in Ealing on Saturday?I didn't actually want anything on offer but it did seem to generate a lot of interest and the place was certainly buzzing.

A lot of 'nice' families live in flats. Since when did flats mean singles/childless couples?
