Ealing Trailfinders

I see the glory hunters at Wasps got a plug on this web site recently. Just in case you were unaware Ealing's premier club for mini and Youth rugby is Ealing Trailfinders so if your son is thinking of taking up the game try there.http://www.ealingrugby.co.uk/

We found it was oversubscribed though. Hard for beginners to get a game. Another good local side is Grasshoppers Rugby Club http://www.grasshoppersrfc.com/community.html

If contact is involved beginners shouldn't really be playing in games for safety reasons. Grasshoppers are very good at taking boys who are less experienced in the game and developing their skills whereas some other clubs just take boys who are already playing lots at school with a view to winning leagues and festivals.

Wasps are taking on new players in all age groups at the moment as far as I am aware although there was a large number of registrations at the beginning of this season and some groups may be close to capacity. The ground at Twyford Avenue is right on the border of Ealing W5 and only a few minutes from Ealing Broadway so very easy to get to from this area. One of the misconceptions about the club is that it is connected with the Wasps Academy. Players are not vetted on ability and beginners are welcome.More info on www.waspsfootballclub.co.uk

I'm associated with the U-14 age group at Wasps and we are certainly looking for new players. We are not so interested in boys who are already playing rugby regularly but would really like to hear from those interested in giving the game a try. We have a specialist development squad with four coaches, two of whom are grade 2 qualified. The only qualification needed to join is a reasonable standard of fitness. Training is at 6.30pm Tuesday and 10.am Sunday at Twyford Avenue, behind Twyford School. You can just turn up (with a gumshield if possible) or if you have further questions contact me through this forum or Grant on crdm@waspsfc.co.uk. For other age groups contact Grant and he can advise on current availability.

Since I wrote my original message the club appears to have now reached the stage where it is at the point of closing to new members at youth level. I've been told from U-13s up there will be no new registrations accepted after this Sunday (28th September) so if you are thinking of joining get in touch before then. I'm hopeful after that date that subscriptions can be accepted from boys who go to schools that do not play rugby. If you can't make it Sunday contact me for U14s and Grant on crdm@waspsfc.co.uk for other age groups.
