What a total disaster.Successive governments have allowed this to happen through their 'open door' policies. The real villains of this particular piece are (a) the foolhardiness of becoming enmeshed in the E.E.C. and (b) the building of the Channel Tunnel. The English Channel saved Britain in WW2. Evidently it has sprung a massive man-made leak. With the loss of sovereignty ceded to Europe Britain has surrendered to the dictates of the E.E.C. and the ever burgeoning numbers of 'club members'. Now the impoverished of eastern Europe expect to find their salvation in U.K. at the expense of native-born Britons. If this had been envisaged all those years ago would the U.K. have signed up to this nonsense? The lessons of history have been forgotten and now the price has to be paid for that folly.

This seems to tie in with Thames Water which suggested that water consumption in London was at the level for 11 000 000 people, not the 9 000 000 officially stated.Slough council also said that the sewage generated in its area represented an additional 250 000 people over government figures.
