Zone D CPZ

I was interested to read about the proposed changes to this CPZ on the front page. I confess to sometimes parking at the top of Ascott Avenue in July/August/September and walking in to do my shopping. With the college students away for the summer, I never have trouble finding a space and am a bit surprised that the residents are complaining that they do. Is it really such a problem?

The restrictions of several hours in the morning and several hours in the afternoon seems to be a good way of reducing the all day car park.

What is very odd about this area and CPZ's in general are the roads where people have their own drives!! Why do they need a CPZ when they can park. It is all a money making racket. A CPZ does not guarantee parking in front of your own home anyway. So as the College students are officially the problem then why extend it. A few people paeking in the summer months in your road. What is the problem?? Does the Council need more money to cover the Iceland losses??

I would have thought that a lot of the residents would have been on holiday during those months and there would be fewer residents cars there.  People don't usually complain unless the cars don't appear to be moving for days. Perhaps they are mature students?  The youngsters appear to be all living on credit (starting with a student loan which is expensive and isn't enough to cover student accommodation) and shuffling amounts from one credit card to another.  Yet I remember being horrified when we began to need a card to verify a cheque and Barclays' only answer was to supply a card that was also a credit card! What a change.

I remember when Nat West, Lloyds & the Midland sent their customers unsolicited Access cards; must have been about 1973. Hailed as the end of the world as we know it.

The original fault was the lack of self-policing by the TVU who should have self-policed a non-car policy for students, bearing in mind the problems caused to residents. The resulting draconian CPZ intoduced several years ago has caused much grief with its knock-on effect as well as unforeseen internal problems - isolation of residents needing support and closure of local shops.There has been a lot better understanding of the newer CPZ`s where the one hour morning/one hour afternoon has prevented longer-term parking but not turned areas into no-go zones.The worry I have with all the flat building along the Uxbridge Road is lack of enforcement of no-car terms to which developers have agreed, as many developments were allowed to go ahead without car parking - in theory officers shouldn`t issue CPZ permits in order to protect the built-in zones but non-CPZ areas will come under increasing pressure without any apparent sanction.
