Ealing Cinema

Does anyone know what is happening to the Ealing cinema on Uxbridge Road? I have noted that it is now enclosed by boards which give the impression that it is going to be demolished ....

The one opposite the Town Hall Matthew? Used to be known as 'The Forum' long ago, sad if its going. Was an archtypical 'Art Deco Emporium' complete with superb Cinema Organ, long since defunct no doubt! Trolleybuses 'whirring' along outside in The New Broadway on the way to Uxbridge or Shepherds Bush, Ealing was Genial or Gentle in those days,not without its faults of course, but non-the-less relativly calm.

Good news Barbara, pity its not going to be a 'Retro-Refit'.There always seemed to be a sort of ambiance about going to the Cinema, that somehow transported one away from your relativly mundane existance into a different World!

The scriptwriters will certainly have to work hard to create something similar to compensate for today, assuming its possible!

What precisely did the boards say? There was discussion about this earlier on. The official version is that the cinema is going to be upgraded with a multi-million pound investment. The cynics/realists felt that in the present economic climate and with a multiplex being set up in Westfield the site would be left derelict for quite some time. They appear to be making a handy return from in by clamping people who miss the tiny signs warning them not to park.

Certainly a marvelous Emporium as I remember it. The whole place had a pleasant aroma of opulence that many cinemas had. Gave one a sense of occasion on entering the Foyer.

Sadly, it was anything but opulent by 2008.
