Random breath testing

Now motorists are being stopped on Horsendon Lane South for no reason other than driving at night. Has Plod nothing better to do?

Has Plod nothing better to do?You have not heard of the footballer who recently killed two small children, by crashing into their fathers car, and who was left paralysed as a result. This idiot was over twice the limit. How do you propose they try to prevent this massacre on our roads, I would be interested to know? There was a programme on TV recently, and one person thought it was OK to drive after sinking 6 pints of beer, the tragedy was he thought it was funny. So carry on plod, and confiscate their cars if they fail the breath test, perhaps we may then get some responsible drivers on our roads.

I am well aware of the drunken footballer. IMO police should stop those they have good reason to suspect of breaking the law, not all and  sundry. Their present behaviour is a waste of their time and goes against the common law presumption of innocence, a liberty we are in grave danger of losing.

If he had been stopped in a random check, this family would be celebrating the Christmas festivities, instead of mourning their tragic loss........liberty has a price to pay!

As I keep suggesting, the family that were killed were "law abiding" and obeying the laws of the road! If the public are aware that they my be stopped and checked, some may well ensure that their vehicle is taxed, has a current MoT and Insurance, and are not under the influence of drink and/or drugs!!Key points worth consideringVictims--540 people died and almost 2000 were seriously injured in drink drive related crashes in 2006.One in six road death continues to be drink drive related. -another similar breathtest mentioned to me occurred a few days ago in Mattock Lane where the driver gave no cause for concern whatsoever, wouldn`t have minded a checkover in a sweep against local burglaries, guns, drugs, or illegal immigration but the sole purpose was to get a failure on the breathalyser.

Some young drivers have said that they are not worried about driving after drinking, that ought to worry not only you but everyone!

Think I was more worried by the long-jump style frontal assault culminating in a judo kick to a pedestrian being relayed to me by a passenger as I drove past Ealing Hospital on Christmas morning, concentrating on the speed cameras of course. Perhaps you think an anti-terrorist raid on an MP`s office in Parliament will stop terrorism!

In Australia they have random breath testing quite often. And I suppose if you are a drink driver it could be a problem but if you are not then two minutes is a short period of inconvenience if it keeps the roads safe.

Perhaps you think an anti-terrorist raid on an MP`s office in Parliament will stop terrorism!You are quite right,of course it won't! But attempting to stop idiots who drink and drive by random breath tests, will probably make some think twice before doing so, and as I keep repeating, if it saves just one small child (who could be related to you remember) then IMO it is worth the "inconvenience" don't you think? Glad to know that you were also concentrating on the speed cameras........speed kills!!!!!

Perhaps breathalysing is an easy option for for the police. The chances that the culprit is a white UK citizen, identifiable by licence, insurance, etc and probably non-violent is far safer than many other "arresting" offences.Now if there was a "residentalyser" test carried out with the same gusto...           ... but that would be picking on minorities, wouldn't it?
