Around Ealing Consultation

http://www.ealing.gov.uk/services/council/consultations/current_consultations/I did not know until today that this consultation is going on. On page 2 at the bottom you can write a few sentences although you would never think so.It is about time that Ealing Communications emailed all the Community websites of up and coming consultations.I have heard some Councillors favour the idea. The buses which have advertising  screens could also notify us of consultations as could the hoardings in the tube stations.Our do nothing Councillors should get their act in gear.

I have suggested several times that Council Consultations be listed in Around Ealing.  I don't remember that I have noticed if they are or not.They are listed on the Council website but I feel that I am more likely to see something in Around Ealing - or I might on here.  Depends on whether I am around or have time etc.  If I am trying to write something difficult on the computer or research something then it is a diversion....

There are no consultations in the latest copy of Around Ealing. Ironically one of the ongoing consultations which expires shortly is about community engagement. Presumably these are just exercises that the Council has a statutory obligation to go through and they don't really care about responses.

It happens everywhere.  I was reading just the other day where changes in interest rate for a bank account would be notified.  I would just never see it.  Not a chance!At least the info is available for someone to pick up without having to go into the Council offices.  I was under the impression once that it was only produced and circulated within the Council. However as you say it is not enough.  Let's have the consultations advertised in Around Ealing.  Surely that would give a broader spread of information and better chance of community engagement?

The difference is that if you are unhappy with the way a bank keeps you in touch you can change banks. You can't do that with Councils.

Everybody in our village of 1100 souls over the age of 14 (special one for 14-18 year olds) filled in a 16 page questionnaire about who, how, where and what we wanted for our village. Did we want traffic lights, to do we want street lights (light pollution, what's that?), could the bus service be improved, what local services do we use (local shop, post office), what improvements could we suggest for the village in general. This questionnaire was organised by the parish council and distributed and collected by volunteers.This is our free monthly newspaper, run by villagers for villagers.        Reporter
