The large pothole at the entrance to  EB station...

There is a large pothole at the vehicular entrance to Ealing Broadway station which is between the footways north and south. From its location I would assume it is on council property.As it is in such a well-used prominent position I am surprised that it has not been fixed already.Sooner or later some enterprising pedestrian is going to stumble into it and claim compensation.If anyone from the council is reading this then the hole is now large enough to be shown on WikiMapia/Google Earth etc. But perhaps that is the idea...

Re  From its location I would assume it is on council property.          xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx      if it's the drive-in half-moon bit of road directly facing the entrance itself, I think it does not belong to the Council but either " British Rail " or the owner of the land on which that building stands. The ownership matter came up at an Ealing Forum meeting when the question of parking  / stopping was raised and why could the Council not do something about it, the answer being the Council does not own the land, so I suggested they compulsorily bought it.

The would be Arcadia Tupperware Tower developer Glenkerrin owns the Ealing Broadway Station forecourt. Maybe it's their responsibility?

Dear Alan et al,Here is a response from Highways Mgmt at Ealing Council:****************************************************This matter was originally brought to the attention of the Council on the 6 February 2009.  The issue is not a pothole but a defect from utility works.We have established that the problem lies with Thames Water and have on several occasions raised this with them as an emergency since the 6 February 2009.  The Network Mangement Team Manager has escalated the problem to a higher level at Thames Water this afternoon and has requested that this matter be immediately addressed as the area in question is dangerous.****************************************************Hope this answers your questioning...Joanna

Joanna, thank you kindly for your reply.Unfortunately it begs other questions:if the kole in the surface is not a pothole then what is the correct nomenclature for such a defect?Indeed how many separate types of holes in the highway have been identified so far?

At 14:20 hr Wednesday 25 Feb. I see that the "defect" has been worked at.Now instead of a hole with varying depth we have a raised surface of irregular height.I can understand overfilling a hole to allow traffic to compress the new material so eventually it becomes level with the existing surrounding material but did analysis of this defect suggest that some parts of the substrate were weaker than others and so required more filling?I think not.

If you complain about a hole they overfill it!! Intersting psychology!! Mountain out of a Molehill?? Perhaps Kwik  Fit need to sell more exhausts or has it been filled by the speed bump people!! So the raised surface will trip people up. Well at least the Lawyers are still on course for some dosh!!

I passed the infill/overfill today, Friday.The Ayers Rock (Uluru) / Malvern Hills element seems to have been flattened by some vehicle but the general undulations remain.Interestingly at the middle of the infill is a particularly soggy looking section of tarmac, which I would not recommend treading on.Unfortunately I think the recession will be around far longer than this masterpiece of bodging.
