Jean,You obviously have missed today's announcement:Ealing Council has this week introduced six new specialist ‘ drive-through-and-fix’ crews, to deal with new potholes caused by extreme weather inside five to six weeks. This will be at a cost of £299,000.The worst wintry conditions for 20 years with wet and freezing weather has caused a number of potholes to appear in the borough’s roads.Streets exposed to ‘freeze thaw’, when water gets into cracks and then expands into ice, caused the road surface to break up and deeper-than-usual potholes to occur.Due to the bad weather there will be approximately 3,700 more potholes to repair this winter. The Council’s contractor Murrills has already repaired 285 located by its inspectors and will be fixing around 180-190 potholes a day.Cllr Jason Stacey, Leader of the Council said: "By the end of next year we will have spent £18.5 million to improve roads and pavements, increasing our average yearly spend six times over."Our commitment to spend £6.5 million this year is part of a sustained investment programme to bring our roads up to a good standard."It is essential that this recent spate of bad weather does not hinder this work which is why I have agreed to invest a further £300,000 to fund a rapid response team to carry out urgent repairs."To report a pothole, contact 020 8825 6222 or customers@ealing.gov.uk
