If the firm building the tower block in Manor Road in West Ealing hasn't submitted all the proper paperwork for the demolition and construction, how can we be confident they won't be similarly cavalier when it comes to fire safety regulations.

David Millican Standing Down

Just been told that David Millican will not be standing as a councillor for Northfield in the May election. Not sure of his reasons but it would have been astonishing if he had managed to hang on given the state of his party's showing in the national polls. He's not my ward councillor but I know he is well liked by residents of that area across the political spectrum and was excellent at keeping his constituents informed. Some of my local Tory friends are predicting a total wipeout for the party in May which I think unlikely but would be astonishing given they were the largest group in the borough as recently as 2010.

Bob Wellings and the Castlebar Road elephant

I was very sad to hear that Bob Wellings the former Anglia TV presenter died this week. He used to live in the area and was responsible for what may or may not be Ealing's most famous urban myth — that a circus elephant is buried under Castlebar Road. I've heard various versions of the story but the most commonly told is that the animal died when the circus came to town at the end of the nineteenth century and it was easier to bury the animal near where it died as it was impractical to cart it away. Maybe with Bob's passing we'll never know the truth of the story.

Here's whats coming when Ealing Broadway station work is finally finished

The carriageway outside the station to be narrowed to 1 lane;Bus Stop F outside the station to be relocated to be outside Metro Bank;Removal of the existing taxi rank and convert the available space into new footway;Removal of the bus layby and converting it into new green space;New signalised pedestrian crossing on Haven Green;Landscaping on the station forecourt, additional cycle stands, footway and cycleway resurfacing.My local councillors sent the proposals to me after they were given no time whatsoever to respond to them, Quelle Suprise eh?

Financial Incentives for Councillors to use bikes.

....at the expense of council tax payers no doubt.Is this for real?A bit like the Councillor some years back who insisted that a CPZ was important to help people understand that don't need cars.She then left the meeting as she had to attend another one.Leaving by car.When challenged she said "I have to have a car otherwise I would never be able to do my important work."Total double standards but the fact is whose work is not important?  Unpaid volunteers? or those scraping by trying to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads?I hope all these roughing councillors will be having their subsidised machines tracked so as to prove their legitimate use in the interests of transparency.  Most I know claim taxis as they are too inebriated to drive after the customary post meeting neck oiling.
