ive shown this video at work and everyone's been blown away by it. i had no idea that there were moving pictures outside of a studio dating so far back. can you imagine the audience reaction back in 1901 when projected onto a silver screen?!

Apparently `phantom rides` were very popular around this time and typically made for screening at fairgrounds. This film was made by William Dickson (American associated with Edison) titled "Panorama of Ealing from a Moving Tram".- miles better than a ghost bus ride!

Most movie films were made outdoors, whether within the confines of studio grounds or on railway station platforms.This was due to the "slowness" of the photographic emulsion used. As a movie camera works at a relatively fast rate the exposure time is in the order of 1/25 second. Not much time for those old emulsions. Still cameras can have unlimited exposure times if the subject doesn't move. The best source for a lot of light is the sun, hence outdoor shots.It's noticeable that until the 1920s there were very few genuine indoor shots. One of the reasons that Hollywood became pre-eminent was the quality of sunlight and very little rain. Room shots were of a set with floor and three sides, no roof.

Re  Here's a nice video of Ealing locations used for Carry on Constable        xxxxxxxx    Thanks,  lots of films were shot in Ealing, that one in Manor Road and The Avenue, Sailor Beware ( with fog-horn Peggy Mount ) at St. Stephens Church and around , Ealing Sudios filmed many country scenes in Walpole Park and Haven Court also featured in many films, including those of Dianna Dors.
