Boeing B17 Flying Fortress

Does anybody know of a museum in the UK where I could go to see one of these aircraft.

Hi SheilaI have been informed by a knowledgeable colleague of mine that there are 2 at Duxford and 1 at RAF Hendon museum.Hope this helps.

Many thanks all - have been to RAF Hendon yesterday to see the B-17. It was awesome.  An excellent museum - the bomber section a very moving experience. And free admission.

Hi.It's many moons since I visited the RAF Museum but it is indeed splendid. As I now live in N.Z. I can't get there at all. I was stationed not too far from there at RAF Bentley Priory in the fifties.The B.17 was an interesting aircraft as it was less of a bomber and more of a defensive unit as befits its name.The Avro Lancaster however was a totally different proposition and the B.17 was never in the same class. The Lanc could shift a ten ton bomb. I doubt if the B.17 could get it off the ground, much less deliver it.Glad you enjoyed Hendon.Cheers.John Chant.

Your find an airworthy B17 at Duxford airfield possible another one which flew in from the USA,whether the second B17 remains at Duxford I dont know
