Explore Ealing (& London) on Foot : Next Weekend 30 & 31 May

Council Press Release from www.ealing.gov.uk:"'Get Walking’ around Ealing (PR 1446)People are encouraged to take advantage of free walking tours this month and explore Ealing on foot.As part of the Walk London Spring into Summer Weekend, 30-31 May 2009, two great walks will be led around Ealing, giving residents and visitors alike an opportunity to discover some of Ealing’s hidden gems.The weekend celebrates “Get Walking Day”, a national day which is being organised by the Ramblers Association on Saturday 30 May. Ealing Council Executive Director for Environment and Customer Services, Keith Townsend, said: “Get Walking Day is a fantastic way for people to enjoy organised walks around the local area.  Walking gives you the time to take in your surroundings and perhaps see things you wouldn’t normally from a car or train.“It is also a good way to get fit and stay healthy.  I encourage everyone to take advantage of the tours this month and get out and enjoy the great surroundings of our borough.”There are more than 40 walks being held across London over the Spring into Summer Weekend. In Ealing, there will be two tours on Saturday 30 May; one around the River Brent and the other taking in Horsenden Hill and Harrow-on-the-Hill.For more information visit www.walklondon.org.uk"

Phillipa,As laudable as some of your Council publicity efforts are - does the Council actually pay you to distribute their press releases?At a salary of £150,000 per year, Mr Townsend could perhaps have come up with some comments which weren't so blindingly obvious. He could have actually hinted at some of Ealing's  'hidden gems' that the walks might expose.If we join these two free walking tours in Ealing (and Harrow) on 30th May, can  we expect Mr Townsend and perhaps relevant Councillor portfolio holders to join in with these 'fantastic, great walks'?

But Victor it's an opportunity and an incentive to go out and enjoy the great outdoors especially if you don't want to go on your own.  There are loads of walks all over London and a lot of them next weekend in particular - if you look at the site that is linked:  www.walklondon.org.uk

Yeah but ended up curled up with lemsip instead.  I keep dreaming.  There was supposed to be a London Festival with walks but I think I've now missed everything.

I found it again - it was this website for a month of London activities and this weekend there is something down thisaway.http://www.london.gov.uk/storyoflondon/weekend/walking.jspThis weekend is Living History Weekend and Henry VIII will be sailing along the river from the Tower of London to Hampton Court Palace to mark the 500th anniversary of his coronation.
