Polish Food Shops

I have noticed yet another polish shop open where Loop used to be.  Has anyone shopped in any of these shops if you are not polish?I am curious about the food, but as everything seems to be in polish would have no idea really what I was buying and what the local delicacies were!

There appears to be two almost next door to each other opposite the town hall. I've also noticed that many places prominently advertising Polish products in their windows are not Polish run but simply catering to the market that has developed.I know what you mean about the labelling. I'm keen to try as much as possible but it's hard to know what some of the more obscure looking stuff actually is. Many of the products look a bit too processed for me but others are delightful. Fortunately I live almost on top of Bronek's deli on Northfield Avenue, which I believe is one of the longer standing Polish shops in Ealing. The proprieter, when he is around, is happy to explain what everything is. Sometimes his younger staff are less able to communicate in detail what certain products are. Many dishes in the fridge counter are home made for the shop. His home made (and frozen) pierogi are excellent and dead easy to prepare at home, especially the potato & cheese version. They also do freshly made cakes.He's also recently taken over the café opposite and now serves traditional east European dishes alongside the usual egg'n'chips menu.

The one at the top  of Boston Road (begins with M - think it's part of a chain) is great they are really helpful and suggest stuff

Being half Polish, I prefer to go to an established Polish Deil like Broneks on Northfields Ave, very good and as posted earlier alot of the food is home made. Although I have never been in one, Mleczko on Boston Road are good and have a few branches, one next to South Ealing Station. The Polish Deli opposite Ealing Broadway Station is another good place to try. They too will help you with any queries.

It is illegal to offer packet/tinned food for sale in this country without a list of ingredients transalted into English. Mainly to assist people with allergies.

Nothing, as far as I can see, because these foodstuffs are very much on sale, including in British supermarkets. I usually  ask a shopper who looks of the nationality of the item  I am looking at. Some don't know as they can't speak / translate into English.

The packaged products always have a list of ingredients in English in my experience. The point was that when looking at unfamiliar foodstuffs, a list of ingredients is often not sufficient to inform one of whether it's a palatable foodstuff, what it might go well with, how it is traditionally eaten, what might be better, etc.
