Egoshego - new shop?

On my way to the tube this morning, I noticed that work was being carried out to the Egoshego shop - does anyone know if we have a new store coming to Ealing?!

Probably another pund shop or cheap bag shop. But Hennes is definitely openning soon opp primark.

Hennes? Another foreign retailer indeed! Still I suppose they are slowly taking the place of C&A - remember them?

It's where Curry's (?) used to be and also the floor above in the building that used to be a restaurant many years ago, but was left derelict.

Re  But Hennes is definitely openning           xxxxxxxxxxxxx      is this really the name, or did you mean  Hermes  ?. If the latter, they will have a struggle to sell anything. They had a place in Royal Exchange building in the 70's and beyond. In that decade they had a SALE, which was a real eye opener. A document case, which consisted of a sheet of brown folded leather and which bore a price tag of £1000, headscarves £ 250 and a man's woollie " hat " at £50, which elsewhere was £2 max. And that was 30 years ago. And plain ash trays seemingly made of china, at £100. I no longer work in that area so I don't know if Hermes are still there. L. Vuitton was next door.

Gosh some of you certainly have no clue as far as retailing is concerned!  The new store is H&M. They used to call themselves Hennes a few years back but are known as H&M now. They sell high(ish) fashion merchandise for women and kids and prices similar to Next, or slightly less.  I like some of the kids stuff for my young son (2 and a bit) as it's bang on trend (i.e. skinny jeans) They often collaborate with designers such as Matthew Williamson and the like to bring out higher priced limited collection ranges that usually attract massive queues and sell out within hours.  Here endeth the H&M lesson!

I don't really like chains, but prefer independent boutiques & shops. However, it would be great to Have a Graham & Green (there's one in Chiswick). I also wish Fouberts would open a cafe in Ealing (also in Chiswick).

Little chance of John Lewis.  Apparently they did not want to move to Westfield, let alone Ealing, for fear of taking sales off their Brent Cross and Kingston stores. Anybody want Daniels back?  (Not me)

I was a big supporter of Daniels and was very sad when it closed. They had a restaurant upstairs where pensioners could go to eat decent meals at very lower cost - and it was proper food. It was such a shame it closed - it is now going to be a polyclinic.

No., realise John Lewis wouldn't be interested. I'm not wild about one off shops simply because of the cost. I agree about Daniels though. It was a bit of history now gone for good. Also, some useful stuff like furniture, habadashery, music etc. Nowhere to buy any of that now in Ealing. There are no decent homewhere shops in Ealing. The restaurant was like stepping back to the 1950s but it was charming in its own way.

You can buy haberdashery in Daniels, West Ealing. The polyclinic plans are not abandoned, just on hold.  The people that live in in the flats above are up in arms and want their lease agreements changed as they bought on the basis Daniels would be below. I think that one will take some time to sort out.Re independent retailers, a good example of costs are the kids shoe shop on Bond Street (temporarily forgotten the name) charging £5 more for their converse kids trainers than a shop in EB Centre a few minutes walk away.  Why would I pay £5 more? Not for any extras in the service proposition I am afraid.

I was really refering to shops like Darch & Duff on Northfields Ave which tend to stock items bot always available in larger shops as some of their suppliers tend to be smaller manufacturers.

They do have lovely stock, I agree but they are extremely expensive, as is 'The Mill' on the other side of the road. Great for a last minute present though (Darch & Duff) because they gift wrap too.

Yes, I agree and I find them very useful for presents. I'm not suggesting that every shop in Ealing should be like that, but I just think it needs a better mix of shops. There are very few good independent shops & restaurants in Ealing, but I'm still glad I live there!

As regards the NHS Polyclinic planned for the new Daniels, according to the NHS PCT plans released in April 2008 it should have opened this month!As well as the flat owners concerns I think the lack of PFI money for these so-called 'LIFT' projects is scarce and as UK plc is close to being bust, the Government isn't keen to give away any more of our money or print some more.So Daniels will stay boarded up for months and years perhaps. Why has no-one flyposted on the boarded up building?

Why does a Clininc need to be in a main (used loosely of course) shopping drag anyway?  You will find it off-pitch if you need it.  Surely should be trying to build up the retail attraction of the West ealing section of Uxbridge Road?

I was wondering this morning about the new building on the first floor above Waterstones. It used to be a restaurant; then they demolished it and I thought, maybe, just more parking spaces, but now there is quite a smart building.

It is the new H&M, not sure when it is due to open.  The entrance will be where the old Currys used to be near M&S. I would assume you will go up an elevator/lift to the main space at the top.

Oh great, with Primark and H&M opening opposite each other shoppers can stand in the square comparing their stunning sweat shop styles.

Unfortunately the consumer doesn't care enough for that to bother them, hence the success of Primark. I am unsure on H&Ms history in this area so cannot comment. They want cheap disposable fashion and Primark gives it to them.

H&M is Hennes (female fashion) & Mauritz (male fashion).Their fashion is somewhat better than Primark (but it varies), but even Madonna had a range there a few years ago.They are quite European-esque in terms of style and taste.******************************************************In reference what I would like to see in Ealing, if John Lewis is not interested, then Debenhams is pretty good too, affordable and has a range for everything from fashion to homewares. For fashion, I like East, Coast, Wallis, Hackett and Racing Green.For food, does Cullens still exist ? I would like to see something like an affordable version of Whole Foods to be available.Other shops like Patisserie Valerie or Maison Blanc would be a nice welcome and you would see me in there often !I would love to see Crabtree & Evelyn or L'Occitane too in Ealing....

Well at least we aren't Margate...From BBC News...'The Local Data Company (LDC) says the average retail vacancy rate has risen from 4% a year ago to almost 12% now.Margate in Kent is the worst hit town, with a rate of 25%.
