Junk phone calls

My answerphone receives multiple junk phone calls each day, mostly advertising very dubious financial services. My occasional checks indicate that the majority are caller number withheld. The Telephone Preference Service could remove my details from legitimate advertisers based in the UK, but would probably have little or no effect on calls which are either made by advertisers operating outside the law or originate elsewhere and may be carried at very low cost over the internet. BT appear to be not interested.

I heard the man talking about it on the radio and it sounds good. If the incoming call is not from someone in your phone's phonebook, it asks them to identify themselves, then asks you if you want to take the call. Most people will hang up on being asked to identify themselves and you don't even know that they rang.

This does work from what i hear as well. Only trouble would be international calls and companies that you already have some kind of relation ship with. So have had no calls for the last 2 years from anyone. Another aspect of calls is not to give personal info. ask if thye can prove who they are.

I signed up to the TPS and the MPS (mail version) and so far I have only received a US call which is not covered by this as it's UK-based.Also, make sure you are ex-directory - contact your landline provider to do this.
